You cannot in good faith limit a persons ability to play a game because of a forum post.

He could also get around this by renting the game, or pirating it, or going over to a friend's house and playing it.  The point is that he shouldn't have to because this should never have happened in the first place.

And personally I feel that this is an oversight that will be fixed in the morning. However, I don't much care one way or the other about this guy or his account. He did something that got him banned. Expect punishment if you break the rules. No one is preventing him from playing the game. At best, he loses access to a few DLC weapons and armor.

still property that he could have potentially bought.

He didn't buy any of the promotional DLC weapons and items. At best, he received them as incentive for purchasing other items, items he still has access to.

I still have to log in everytime I play DAO to verify my DLC, if this happened to me I could not play DAO.

Yes. But that doesn't make it the correct choice. It comes across as throwing a tantrum. Plus, it is laughably easy to get the members here worked up over the most asinine of issues.

There was a problem that needed fixing, with 1 person pressuring EA, nothing would be done, with hundreds, something will be done.

Very hard not to, it's practically a monopoly now.

Yes but here is the thing.

I don't understand people saying "it was unintended".

How the hell can it be unintended when EA's policy condones it AND the computer that banned him had to be setup the way it was.

Let me guess, the policy the Mr. Woo showed was written by the computer (after hours) and reprogrammed itself to do this?

Does the punishment fit the crime? Depends. I just have his own words on what happened. Now, as I have never heard of this happening before, I have to assume that this in an unintended consequence of forced registration. That being said, I still feel that the person was in the wrong. This board is not intended to be used in order to insult, demean or otherwise offend. Someone was offended and someone reported him. The user then responded to the outcome in a totally uncalled for manner, circumventing his ban, threatening piracy and inciting the populace. It reminds me of a child throwing a tantrum because he can't have his toy. Now, don't get me wrong, I fully expect this issue to be fixed come the morning. However, the amount of hatred, name-calling and threats is just pathetic. It is frankly disheartening and makes the forum as a whole look bad.

You would still be able to play DA:O if your account was suspended temporarily, you just wouldn't be able to play with your DLC.

First things first. None of this would have happened in the first place if the game didn't suck.

Second. 23 pages, umpteen topics, a 3 on metacritic, and 1 sucky sequel later and it's safe to assume Bioware has indeed sold its soul to the EA devil.

Third. Constructive criticism. Let's start with what is really a small problem that is spinning out of control into something much larger. Bioware needs to do some quick reputation fixing, but how? This one is easy. On not just gaming forums and gaming news sites but just do a Twitter search for Bioware and you can see where a lot of the anger is pointed. "End of Line". old Stanley Woo is now a meme. Now Stanley Woo if I remember right was just a regular NWN user back in the day who got promoted to mod. I have no problem with the guy, he probably thinks he was just doing his job. But He's now, literally, a worldwide joke. He has to go. Even if he just changed his forum name to give the impression he's someone else, he has to go. Seriously do a Twitter search though, it's hilarious. End of Line. lol.

But This all comes back to the game itself. If it didnt suck none of this would have happened. Bioware needs to patch the performance for PC users because it's just atrocious. Then they need to patch the missing auto attack on the consoles. Then they need to get to work on fixing those elves. And then they need to release the other half of the game. And I dont mean DLC. I mean the other half of the game that they left out, because this is not a Bioware finished product. This is garbage.

What a mess.

No, not always, but quite often it's at least one, and hard at work towards achieving the other.

Short of your having some special insight to the offence in question, your acceptance, even passionate encouragement of this kind of exchange from a position of ignorance is rather absurd. You assume much about his use of this forum, take a rather limited view on this forum's purpose and use, and use your dim view of "many people" as justification for accepting the mistreatment of a paying customer by EA.

Look, there are two forms of banning here. A moderator can institute a one day ban to an account. Or EA can institute a 3 day ban to the account as a whole. The second requires a report by a separate user and is regulated by an EA official. Now, the mod ban is ineffectual at best. The EA ban is basically an increase in punishment. Personally, I would like to see a 3 day IP ban instituted somewhere in between the two currently available choices.

IP bans do nothing with the amount of proxy servers available. However what EA did was wrong and is questionable. I am fairly certain a lot of country laws however do not agree with them

What is disheartning is that some people think EA should be able to steal from users because of bad behavior on the forums. I am certain those same people don't approve users stealing from EA though.

I know, I know, EA's bottom line is more important than individual rights. I read that earlier.

And that is where account-wide bans come in. There needs to be a way to enforce the rules. Also, EA has not commited a crime as nothing has been taken from the user. Is it bad form? Perhaps, though that depends on the full facts. The user still has access to his game, albeit in three days. Otherwise he can create a new account, which you just said is easy to do, to play the game on or else he can return it for a refund. He may have to jump through some hoops, but that is the price to pay for breaking the rules.

I'm here because I love this community, and partly because this kerfuffle happened while I was moderating and I didn't want the forum full of posts all saying the same thing when the office opened tomorrow morning. So, in my zeal to keep the forum clean, well, y'all saw what happened. When I needed to go home, I left a thread open in the hopes that it would keep the discussion in one place. And it has (thank you).

Thanks for explaining, Stan. You're awesome.

And once again, EA is not stealing from anyone. The user has every right for a full refund depending on where he purchased it. Otherwise he can wait out his ban or create a new account.

If this happened to me and then i would go to the danish consumer rights group. Once money has been exchanged for a product, the sellers can not limit the access to the product unless so written in the contract you made with them when you bought it. This is pretty much illegal in Denmark.

I don't think so. Taking back an opened PC game is impossible. The big box retailers tell you No and Gamestop...welll...they say no too. What do you suggest?

Or
"talking crap" in a forum, or chatroom. Calling a company a devil, so
you make it so the guy can't play his own  game. Are you all crazy.
That;'s gonna look good, he insults you so you ground him from playing
the game. Get over yourself EA, some people think your a **** company,
CRAP LIKE THAT IS WHY

The best thing about the ban is the fact that Mr. Woo`s answer totally justifies asking "Have you sold your souls to the EA devil?" Judging by that EULA they definitely have done that!!!!

What!!?? Am I reading this right, they stopped you from playing the game YOU PAID FOR because of something you said on these forums? Is that legal?
