You cannot in good faith limit a persons ability to play a game because of a forum post.

If it was a mistake, how come Stanley Woo didn't aknowledge it in the first place? Instead, he cited the EA Community Terms of Service saying it's within EA's right to ban you from playing the games you've bought.

Because Stanley Woo wanted to find out what happened? And that he actually stayed untill about 11PM last night to try to clear this up, should tell us something about how Bioware do care.

As for the user, this is now all cleared up. It might even be that the error in the software? caused this unintended glitch.
To avoid this happening to fellow gamers, if we find a post we think that's offensive, I suggest we contact a moderator, Chris Priestly or Stanley Woo.

Whoa I just realized

Priestly - "There was an error in the system"

Woo - "Consider this added incentive to follow the rules"

So I guess the Bioware response changes depending on the time?

Priestly's answer was just damage control when they saw how much they fcked up.

Here's an article on the entire story so far, I think it sums it up nicely.

inb4 Stanley Woo bans me for showing you this article, luckily I buy my Bioware games through Steam.:D

Watch now as the forum numbers drop by a vast amount once the outsiders who came to fight this battle leave. Not all arguing fall into this catagory but I am pretty sure that 60-70% of the people who created threads on it and posted in here will vanish from these forums with exception of the ones who will call it a red herring or hogwash and try to flare it up again which wont work.

I support this, not the act of people of doing it. However that the person is saying. All these posters that have created accounts within the last day or so wil magically vanish. They won't be here anymore and if they will be here,  it will be to provoke fighting. The situation could have been contained, if Bioware prevented you from posting on their fourm like Blizzard and Rift does.

However Bioware is so reaosnable they even allowed you to make a thread in protest of something on thier very own site. It's simply sad that a bunch of people will come here, make threats to download the game from an illegal source, yes breaking the law and how many people simply post here to spread their influnce. (Omg I can't wait 3 days to PLLLAAY)

Now the poster will come back who had been banned and act like nothing had happended. Had he waited one more day the situation would have been over anyways but now after he's got done thrasing nearly our entire community and removed respect from alot of posters. He can now play DA3 a day earlier then he would have.

I agree with this statement. Personally you may call me a fnaboy of Bioware but clear check of my post history will show this not to be the case, but I think Bioware was very nice to let this rage on their forums and mature to keep it in a single thread. If it was me and make no mistake I would have been banning people left right and centre because I am a meanie as I have stated many times. Posted Image Bioware got some respect from me regarding specifically allowing people to voice their issue with it for this long because I wouldn't have. -just saying- Posted Image

Yeah, instead of hitting the report button, which will earn you an EA account ban.

You'll find this hilarious Stan, apparently you're some of a hate-celebrity over on /v/ now, they're basically quoting your 'End of the line' thing when you lockdown a thread.  Including your avatar XD

Woo happened to be in the office after they were closed (at 18.00/6PM, Edmonton Time, I believe). So he tried to find out what happened, tried make to contact someone at EA. And the fact that Woo went home at 11 PM or after this time should speak volumes. In the meantime, Woo digged up the official terms of services.

It seems that someone at EA, from what I now can gather, may have hit the main account button, not the forum buttom for Bioware. It can happen, especially if the person are tired, in training, or maybe is following a manual? We are humans. Error happens. We act. We make errors. We learn from them.

All this notwithstanding, it is still a bad idea to behave like a five year old, to say something in bad way about EA or Bioware on their forums. Maybe it is time people started to learn a little decorum again.

Well it was an ugly way to get here, but at least I know I can play my EA games and I don't have to go to court over a silly thing like wanting to play a game I bought.

Not that I have been banned! But the fear of EA Ban was real for me for about 20 hours.

Here is my official response. You will likely see this picked up on news sites soon enough.

EA strictly enforces the code of conduct at Social.BioWare.com. If a player violates the rules by using profanity, they will be temporarily banned. Unfortunately, there was an error in the system that accidentally suspended a user's entire account. Immediately upon learning of the glitch, EA restored the user's macro account and apologized for the inconvenience.

LOL this is a complete and utter lie!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you remember me Mr. Priestly.  My account name used to be Mordigan before I was banned last year, a long with having all of my DLC revoked.

You did not lift a finger to help me, nor did EA ever give me back my DLC because I didn't make a "scene" about it unlike the OP.

Here are some of the messages we exchanged between us about the affair:

Hello Chris.

Hopefully you can help me. I was banned approximately 2.5 months ago for uttering the phrase,"queer pushers" on the forum (for which I initially received a 3 day suspension), then a permanent ban for attempting to discuss the issue on the forum (something which I regret doing). My previous account handle was "Mordigan."

Throughout that time, I haven't really played Mass Effect 2, but a few days ago I made another account and attempted to log in to the game, and to my surprise, I discovered that I couldn't even load any of my saved games.

I got an error stating that the game was unable to authorize the listed DLC.

Now, I have supported Bioware since the time of the original Baldurs Gate. I have most of your games, and I paid for each of them legitimately....including the DLC for Mass Effect 2 (I actually bought the collector's edition)

But for me to be prohibited from using my DLC EVER AGAIN due to being banned, is a bit harsh I think.

There are plenty of people that don't even pay for the DLC. They just torrent them, and they never have any of the problems that I, a paying customer have had with my DLC.

Therefore, I'm asking you to either lift the ban on my previous account, or transfer the use of my DLC over to my new account so that I can finish my saved games and continue to support Bioware by purchasing future DLC.

Thank you for any assistance!

Being banned from the BioWare forums has no effect on your ability to play or download DLC for any BioWare title.

If your EA Master account was banned, which would have been done at the EA level not by me or some other moderator as we do not have the access, you should still have access to DLC. Only if your account was deleted would you not have access.

You would need to contact EA Customer support for assistance.

Thanks for replying. I've heard this was the case, as you put it, but EA is telling (and doing) me something completely different.

Not only was my ability to post on the forums suspended, but I couldn't even log into the game; even when I was suspended and not banned. Basically, your forum account and game account are one and the same it would seem.

I've contacted EA about this matter numerous times already, and they keep telling me the same thing. I even petitioned to have the ban lifted, but they would not listen.

Since you work for Bioware, is there any way you could contact EA over this to make sure the policy is as you've stated?

Also Chris, here are a few threads about the issue which verify what I'm saying is true; that being banned from the forum can and does affect your ability to play the game or use the DLC:

I'm not trying to start another storm, I'm trying to sort this out.

I doubt the letter was a lie (else why wouldn't BioWare/EA mods deny it?)

People get banned accounts aka forum Bioware accounts all the time it's happend to me well banned as in reality suspension which is what he said that he was suspended for 72 hours, now from what I understand maybe thats the account he meant and according to Chris they banned his main account EA one by mistake instead.

I can't prove this but it is by far the most logical answer to me

And tons of people other people have had the same happen to them, myself included. Were they all "accidents" as well?

I highly highly doubt that this guy was banned "by accident". Maybe "On purpose, but they subsequently regretted the decision". Even if he was banned "on accident", that doesn't change the fact that tons of people have also been game banned, they just chose to be less vocal about it.

Even in Stanley Woos post, he confirms that its possible to be banned from the forums by EA moderators and have your game access revoked. I don't see how this recent action suggests anything besides attention whoring as a way of making customer support finally listen to your ****ing problems.

Whatever your issue is with this it's not my problem, I don't care as the situation has been resolved so why live in the past. I suggest move on do something else for change and get over it. Surely there are other things you would prefer to be doing than complaining about the fact something got solved. Posted Image

Don't worry, happens to the best of us.  People will find any reason to flip out or spew hate  Apparently people are doing Google searches about me on /v/ and finding old RP accounts I use to use.

I have to say though, I'm surprised that one game could generate this level of polarization among it's own fans.

And Mr.Woo is even more comical.  Seriously, this guy is a true work of art!  He proceeded to lecture me on "the rules," even though he himself was blithely unaware that EA really did suspend your DLC permanently if your forum account was banned!

[please don't repost private messages]
And that was the end of that.  As far as I know, my DLC is still locked.

However, unlike the OP, I didn't get mad, I got even..
