You cannot in good faith limit a persons ability to play a game because of a forum post.

Banning paying customer from playing his game for saying something like : Bioware have sold their soul to the EA devil, is just nuts and purely illegal in my view, and they could be easily be sued over this, that's why i'm legally insured for such crap as this, i don't like strong taking on the supposedly weak targets (aka bullying). Bioware reputation is in shatters now, well done, keep it up.

That was not why he was banned. He was banned for using profanity in a different post.

Take a look around. Many people call us names. They aren't banned.

This guy triggered an alert for his profanity and, due to an error, was unfairly banned.

Still, hopefully it is sorted now. :)

It wasn't an "error," and you know it.  Honestly, you have no integrity at all..  The same thing happened to me last year, and you didn't even acknowledge that my DLC was even revoked, nor did you ever help to get my DLC back.

It's only because the OP made a song and dance and made both Bioware and EA look bad that you decided to lie and call it an error in the system.. Posted Image

I, for one, am glad that this matter has been resolved. Can we all get back to playing games now?

Personal attacks on the devs is unreasonable and should not be allowed.     They are hardworking guys who build a videogame they are proud of and tons of people love.

They also allow us to complain about the features of a game that we don't like on their own message boards.

I think we are good if we stick to not personally attacking others.

Complaining about complainers however, is not allowed.  For some reason Stanley Woo finds that 'unfortunate' as he mentioned in a locked thread.  I don't know if he meant it was unfortunate that he had to waste his time locking pointless spam threads, or if it was unfortunate that complaining about complaining was not allowed because he enjoys Xzibit Memes.

I prefer to believe the latter. :D

More like 2am, but you know, like, whatever. ;)

You'll find this hilarious Stan, apparently you're some of a hate-celebrity over on /v/ now, they're basically quoting your 'End of the line' thing when you lockdown a thread.  Including your avatar XD

Well, it's not so funny when people post what they claimed were his real phone number and address.  No way to know if they were accurate and I doubt anyone bothered to use that info, but it's still not funny.

I can't believe that you honestly think we would believe anything you are saying. I've been keeping up with this kid's story all day and have come to the conclusion that Bioware didn't know how to take criticism and decided to just ban this kid and steal his video games from him. You are terrible people. He paid $60 out of his pocket for your game and gets treated that way for a simple remark. Then you have the balls to try to cover the whole situation up AFTER it makes headline news on the biggest gaming websites. I will never buy anything from Bioware or EA again. How dare you do this to one of your customers then try to cover it up with some generic excuse like a "glitch in the system". If this is the future of the video game industry; I don't want to support or be a part of it.

So this is the best EA's damage control division could come up with after how many hours of relentless brainstorming? Glitch in the system? Oh you guys.

In light of these shennanigans, and with the not-so-postiive reviews, can we really speculate that the developers are proud of DA2? I wouldn't be if I was on the DA2 project. Methinks the marketing department of EA pushed this out the door too quickly and there was nothing the developers could do about it.

Chris,

what ever the case, Bioware lost great reputation in my eyes. The steam fiasco you dared to pull on millions of steam users is unforgivable and with that 0 day DLC crap, and now this crap also. Look people, it simple. you alienate the customers, the obvious end result is bad sales and end results are layoffs.

I don't know what to make of all this.
I can't say I like the whole idea of 'DLC' anyway... I even heard from a friend (WHO MAY BE MISTAKEN) that some game (Prince of Persia something, I think) actually was SOLD with some locked content which later became DLC. Hmmmm...

Anyway, back to the topic...

I can't really say I'm surprised, or that I truly feel affected by this whole story...
I play NWN, and no one can lock THAT.

Glad to see this issue seem to have been solved though.
Back to NWN.

Yeah I don't think anyone is going to buy that Chris. Anyway leaving
behind why he was banned for a moment, he should not have been
prevented from playing the game. This is a PRODUCT no a service. He paid
his money fair and square for the product. EA and Bioware should have
no say in when he can and can't play it.

Actually, that makes me think it may be true.

I'm sure after 24 hours EA could spin a huge web of lies if they wanted. This excuse is so weak, it may have to be true.

Still, I've seen what everyone said (and thanks for the stolen Toyota comparrison, that made sense) and I'm done with this. Some guy said something dumb. Some dumb company acted dumber. Some... mods have posted the reponse. nothign to see here now.

Here is my official response. You will likely see this picked up on news sites soon enough.

EA strictly enforces the code of conduct at Social.BioWare.com. If a player violates the rules by using profanity, they will be temporarily banned. Unfortunately, there was an error in the system that accidentally suspended a user's entire account. Immediately upon learning of the glitch, EA restored the user's macro account and apologized for the inconvenience.

ah thats good to know :) what do think of this hitting the gaming news when its really a little thing ?

@ carfax. I think your DLC is still inactive, because the DLC is tied to your old account. In DA: Origins, and maybe in Mass Effect 2, you can forceload the game. And I don't think Bioware can transfer your dlc over to your new account, EA would have to do this. Or maybe Fernando Melo, Bioware's DLC guy.

As for me writing about people following a manual, please remember that a lot of EA support is now outsourced to other countries than the US. (just info here). They'll probably have a piece of paper telling them what to do in these cases.

Isn't there a age verification gate filter for the Dragon Age forums, or was that only at the old Bioware forums? So basically using any kind of profanity would get you locked out from the forums? Do EA really have people monitoring the forums looking for profanity? Their terms of service, listed in this thread apparently suggest it. I'm not saying that this is the case, just EA might do it.

I'll give you your computer lesson for the day.

The most likely way to set things up given that registering an EA game and registering forum access both require the same information is to create the account in the database once and have both game registration and forum validation access the same database,  rather than waste time and resources duplicating the same data.

No one considered what would happen if a user was prevented from logging into the forums when they tried to log into their account to register,  as the code that prevents logging into the forums prevents logging into registration so once couldn't "Backdoor" their way into the forums.

Unintentionally,  a ban in one turned out to block registration on the other because the account is prevented from loading.

There's no mystery conspiracy here,  it was a feature intended to improve functionality and reduce redundancy that unintentionally prevented access to either.

I'll give you your internet lesson for the day too.

Noone's impressed when you post nonsensical statements that show you clearly have no understanding of the topic.
