My logic:
Bioware made Jade Empire
Jade Empire was a fun game.
Jade Empire had real time action oriented combat.
Dragon Age 2 has real time action oriented combat.
Dragon Age 2 is similar in some ways to Jade Empire.
Therefore Dragon Age 2 is a good game.
You can disagree with me but you're wrong.
One final statement. Bioware has given me years of fun games. I've always enjoyed a game if they were behind it. I respect their willingness to take risks and try new concepts in game design. I will be a loyal fan and supporter throughout the future.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the years of fun games and that I look forward to many more years of fun provided by your hard work.
This will be my last post. I will now return to lurking.
Face it, the mindset seems to be "I don't like Dragon Age 2 because it isn't an exact copy of Baldur's Gate 2."

People are "rebelling" for reasons more than it failing in comparrison to the prequel.
The recycled maps being a major issue.

Yes this has to be one of my biggest issues with the game, but its not like this is something new to Bioware. Everyone always says how good Mass Effect was but every environment in the game was used and recycled. When it comes to things like this Bioware has always been lazy.

I feel bad for Dragon Age series. It doesn't matter how good DA2 is, it could be a perfect 10 game, it doesn't belong, and I feel the series is now destroyed. I'm not buying the next DA game, and I will never be able to finishing my Signature Edition Dragon Age

If you look at a game perspective, DA2 is a good game. But its not a good Dragon Age series game. It just doesn't belong in the series. It went from RPG to mindless button smashing. I got bored with it, after killing 1,000 enemies in the first hour of gameplay. I killed less enemies with 70 hours of gameplay in DA:O.

I have off tomorrow, I'm going to take my GTO out and go driving around Newport Beach.
For some reason Bioware thought it would be fun to have random enemies spawn on top of you everytime you walk into a new area with not just 1 wave but 2 sometimes 3
Im not sure if this was an attempt to increase difficulty, but if it was it failed. Adding waves and waves of random enemies makes people not want to go and explore because they know everytime they load an area they have to fight off waves and waves of useless mobs ....it becomes frustrating and tedious very quickly.

no......honestly it really is that DA2 isn't a good game...Rushed as hell and DEF not worth 60 bucks, it has nothing to do with it being a sequel

I wasn't really speaking for everyone, just giving my reasons for having a negative reaction to the game. Just because I enjoy the game doesn't mean I'm not still disgusted by how careless Bioware was with how they handled it. Honestly, I was looking forward to a second Dragon Age game until I found out that this one was basically going to be Mass Effect: Dragon Age edition.Mercfh wrote...

See that's not much of an answer. It's definitely not a sequel to DA:O but that doesn't mean it's not a good addition to the Dragon Age universe. Change is good, hopefully they continue changing as they add additions, maybe they'll make another origins game. Maybe they'll make a FPS game where the main character is a archer. I can't wait to see what they bring us next. I am still waiting for mass effect 3 and hoping for another great adventure. As long as I can dress up my character, collect as many items as i want, Kick ass in armor and massive swords and enjoy it as well as have a little fun with the NPC's then it's a pretty damn cool game to me.

It's just a shame how with the change came so many things being taken out. Want to be an elf or a dwarf instead of a boring human? Too bad. Want to customize your companions' armour as well as your own instead of just upgrading the same stuff they'll have for the entire game? Ha, fat chance. Want to have all your companions in one place where you can easily talk to them? Not that there was a reason to change this, but we did it anyway! Whoo! What's that, you'd rather not have a dumbed down version of ME's dialogue selection system and stick with the system from the old game? F*ck yourself!Teh Chozen Wun wrote...

They oversimplified it for the CoD crowd, is basically what I'm saying. I'm not saying that everybody who plays that series is an idiot, I'm just talking about the dudebros and the 12-year-olds who don't like a little bit of complexity in their games.

Well in Dragon Age 2 I actually feel i am in battle, in DA:O i just felt like i stood there watching my allies kill things.
Also like has been said many times about DA2, the repetive maps where only a passage way being block changes it with the map being the same as before on your corner screen. They took their time to rename the maps, why not cut the map up with only the areas we can actually reach in the map.
But i do agree with the OP, People are focusing on the CONs of the game way too much and not allowing themselves to actually enjoy the game. Or at least it seems that way with all the negative remarks towards the game. Dragon Age 3 needs a mix of whats in DA2 and DA:O to improve on DA2.

One race? Lazy.
Didn't bother to make gear for companions? Lazy.
Most of the side quests get picked up and done just by...well, picking up random item A and taking it to person B. My girlfriend and I kept talking about how we were completing quests by accident because there was literally, at best, one line dialogue.
Dungeons and locations. There are about 3 of each. In the docks, in the warehouse, in the cave for dungeons and outside in the mountains, outside in the nice part of town, outside in the bad part of town for locations. All they do for random locations is put you in at a different point of the map and put new pickups down. Using the exact same map and and just blocking off some parts and opening up others doesn't make it a new map. Suspension of disbelief gone.
Finally, gear itself. It's about 80% generic throw away that they just put random buffs on.
Here's what works.
Dialogue. I'd say it is almost if not as good as the first.
Facial animation. Not as good as ME2, but better than DAO. Now I said that the ANIMATION was better. Not the graphics. DA2 just doesn't have the look of DAO. It seems stylized and they changed things for no reason in character design. Qunari have been totally changed. It took me at least half my play time so far to realize that they even WERE Qunari. Elves look like goats. Darkspawn totally changed and don't look evil or monstrous anymore. Just like guys with low iron who need to eat a sandwich. WTF?
Combat, kinda. It's more engaging, but I basically just spam the same move and jam the attack button. The strategy of DAO is gone.
Also, there's no sense of immediacy like there was in the first game. There's no clear cut evil that you're fighting. No doom on the way. No character you grew to love that got killed. You're just kind of in a city doing "stuff." I don't care about these characters the way I did in DAO. That parting scene in DAO literally got me a little choked up. There's nowhere near that emotion in this game.
If someone just asked me, "How is it as an action RPG?" I'd say it's good. Damn good. If someone asked "How is it compared to DAO, I'd say it was watered down and overall dissapointing." Sequels rarely live up to the original, but this one falls flat in all the important places. If there's a DA3, I'm not interested. People calling it a spin off are hitting the nail on the head. It's pretty much Saved By The Bell the New class.

Jade Empire was a terrible, shallow little game. You logic is flawed, as it is built on a faulty premise. However, DA2 is a good game-- but maybe I'm only saying that because I liked Mass Effect. All in all, people need to learn to control their expectations.
