I'm running a Asus EAH5770 (basically ATI Radeon HD 5770) which is 100% DX11 capable.  Basically when I use the DAII config utility it scans my system and tells me I have an HD3870 which was my old card.   I figured it was a problem with my drivers so I uninstalled EVERYTHING, restarted in safe-mode, used TWO different driver cleaning programs PLUS "CC Cleaner" to remove all old Registry files.  I then restarted and installed the latest ASUS drivers for my card and updated my DX.

Sounds like everything should be ok, right?  Well I pulled up the config tool and rescanned my system but it STILL tells me I have a 3870.  This is really annoying me because the game will NOT allow me to use DX11 because it thinks I have an older card. My card shows up as a 5770 under my device manager so I have no idea what is causing this.  I've done everything possible to clear all of the old drivers.  I'm outta ideas here.  Can anyone help?

Are you talking about the config utility?

I recommend running the Config utility, (now that you have done all that), let it load up, then in the menu, click on System, then click on "Rescan the system information" just in case the old system data is residually loaded from a file as opposed to a fresh scan of components.

Then check the Display tab afterwards to see its your monitor on your card. Once you are sure it displays, then change the video settings to use Dx11 if you want and just remember to save.

If that doesn't work, you could try reinstalling the game as a last resort. Your save files are under your Documents / Bioware / Dragon Age 2, so you may want to make a back up.

Yeah I did rescan several times but it keep showing up as a 3870. Maybe I'll trying doing a repair or reinstall as a last resort. However I just checked my desktop system display settings and it's showing up as a 3870 their as well. This is so strange....in the device managr it shows up as a 5770....display settings show it as a 3870....any ideas?

Definitely sounds like some residual configuration has it saved, and if it shows up under display settings, it could still be very well partially installed in Windows somewhere.

I would try one more clean install. Also I would disconnect from the internet before doing this to ensure WinUpdate doesn't try and install what it THINKS you have as well.

I would uninstall Catalyst Control Center via Express option, then reboot into Safe Mode (again). I personally use Driver Sweeper for this (best results for me in the past.) Let it do its thing, reboot, DON'T INSTALL anything just yet, let the Standard VGA Adapter be detected. Once it has finished let it sit for a minute (make sure it doesn't install ATI Drivers) if it does, then ATi Drivers are still officially installed somewhere else and you will have to hunt them down.

If everything is normal (ie. just a Standard VGA Adapter) give Catalyst another install.

Could just be a hiccup.

If that doesn't work, you may have to manually go into your own registry and find ATi entries yourself. Or AMD whatever the hell it is now (most entries are still ATi).
