Okay, I know there's a lot of negativity swirling around the DA2 threads already at the moment, but I feel this needs to be said.

EA, you are one hell of a powerhouse when it comes to publishing, and many of my favorite titles have been produced under your corporate wing.  However, your marketing campaigns for Dead Space 2 and Dante's Inferno were... pitifully juvenile, and you pushed Dragon Age 2 through too quickly for it to reach its full potential.  From what I hear, it is still a pretty good game, but popular opinion is that it's not all it could be.

I am not a marketing specialist.  I am not a game designer.  I have virtually no expertise or knowledge when it comes to selling or making video games.

But I am a consumer.  I am the audience you are targeting.  I am one of the many young people who stay up part midnight to get my hands on a title I've been waiting for.  I know I'm fairly ignorant of the whole process, and that ultimately I only mean a hundred bucks or so, but I feel strongly enough about your products that I believed I needed
to speak up.

Mass Effect 3 has the potential to be a phenomenal game.  It has the potential to sweep in more Game of the Year awards than ME2, if done right.  However, it could also be the next Dragon Age 2, a title that fell short of its massive expectations because it was rushed.

I know it's tempting to cash in and make a bundle as quickly as
possible, but why do that when you can make twice as much if you're just
willing to be patient?  I doubt many people will care if the release date is pushed back.  They will simply wait.  They'll be frustrated, but they'll wait.

Reputation is, from what little I understand, very important when it comes to sales.  Few people will buy a product if they think it's sloppily made.  Undoubtedly, games that surpass the expectations of critics and laypeople alike will sell a lot better.  People--or at least I--like it when a company puts a lot of love and care into their product, and it's what made me really appreciate the first two Mass Effect games.

I want to appreciate ME3.  I want it to be a game worth blowing half a paycheck on.  And so do a lot of other people.  Games these days are pretty expensive, and those of us in the highschool/college/graduate demographic have to be careful with our money as it is.

I am sure ME3 will be a great game and I probably shouldn't be worried, but why stop at great when it can be downright amazing?

In short, EA, please be considerate of the time and effort it takes to make a quality game.  Like any work of art, it's just not the same if you rush it.

Besides, I'd gladly pass up a sales window to secure the prestige that goes with being responsible for the game of the decade.  I'd want to put the "art" back into Electronic Arts.  Wouldn't you?

Thanks much,
AdmiralCheez

PS: Cheers to the folks behind the ME series - you're doing great so far. ;)

I agree. Although I wouldn't lay it 100% on the doorstep of EA. If you look at ME1, you see several of the same problems we see in DA2. Bioware gets ambitious and ends up rushing in the end.

Personally, I would pay a lot more if they took the time and gave me everything I wanted in ME3. Unfortunately, they probably already have their price points set and it's going to come down to tradeoffs in the end.

True, but since they are technically a part of EA, I can just invoke the mother company and address the whole lot of them.

Admiral, you are slowly joining the dark side, and learning fast. It is okay to worry about a company and product you care about, especially if you feel they are starting to change in a negative manner.

Well played.

@SpaceDesperado: EA is evil, EA buys BW, BW is evil.

Dark side?  No.  I'm still optimistic, but that's because Mass Effect hasn't let me down yet.

However, I will not, under any circumstances, tolerate political herpderpery.

No, I mean herpderpery.  It's like dumbf*ckery, only less extreme.

Yes, Cheez. Search your feelings. ME3 is gonna suck and you already know it.

Nonsense.  Maybe not as good as I'd hoped, but I was wowed by the first two, so the worst we'll get is a "just okay."

Which would be a damn shame, but definitely wouldn't suck.

I mean, have you ever not purchased a game you were really psyched for just because the release date got pushed back?

Duke Nukem Forever, baby. That's all I gotta say.

No plans at all to buy that.

To get all project managery on you...

The problem isn't just the release date. If the release date is pushed back, its because additional hours of work are being put into it. This means the game costs more money to produce. If the price point is fixed, this means that less of a return on investment. This means share prices go down. This means the CEO earns less of a bonous. To the CEO, this is pretty much equal to the collapse of civilization.

So it's asking alot. Posted Image

But I stil lhave faith. ME2 I think decided to do less (less exploration for example) to make sure they could do it right. I hope they do what they do very well instead of trying to do everything. Of course, if they did want to try to do everything well, I'd pay for it!!!

It has been confirmed firsthand that ME3 was fully playable as early as this past Christmas. Some developer here claimed that he did one complete playthrough during the holiday. Considering this, I'm not quite sure they have much else to do other than polishing and "sexifying" the game, which normally takes months but not more.
