As part of the secondary quest, you're supposed to hunt down a Varterral in Sundermount, and you can't just run into him, but I have no idea where or how to summon the beast. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

At least in my play-through, I ran into the Varterral while doing Merrill's Act II quest.

Edit: You do indded encounter it on Merrill's quest in Act 2.

Yeah, I did this quest earlier tonight. It's definitely true that you can only get the Varterral Heart while doing Merrill's quest. I had to initiate it, talk to the Keeper about the Varterral, and then head up and off to slay.

Yes, Merrill's quest and then a quest that you get from 2 assassins very close to the end. That's very unspecific, but I guess there is a second chance if you miss the Merrill one.

Yeah, you do end up fighting two. The crow's quest and the Merrill quest. However, I believe they're in different acts.. Merrill's is in act 2 and I could've swore the crows was in act 3. I think if you don't turn it in, it fades from you booklet and you don't complete it. Could just be me, but I think it has to be the Merrill one as they are on the same act. That's a lot of thinking though, I could be wrong!

I figured out where I was going wrong, I was trying to eat up all the side quests in Act 2 before doing the main quests, but didn't realize that more side quests are made available to you when you advance the main plot.

So basically follow through the Blackpowder quest chain and Merrill's quest will open for you, then go talk to her about her mirror and go to Sundermount.

Yea you have to do offered and lost before Merrill's sidequest becomes available.

no u dnt just hand in blackpoder quest and you can do meril/s quest. better yet talk to the viscount he will tell u talk to the seneschal, just dnt talk to the guy and have fun
