@shazzie that makes a problem in and of itself because the quest stays in you book. when the time comes and the game itself tells you to wrap up any final business the player is left searching for the books because he wants to finish his quest.
The main point is the Quest itself needs to update and says it has failed, that is all. Because if it is not that way the player can not know unless he searches online for this unique circumstance. I say it is an oversight and needs updating. Its an issue and i believe they should patch it for the players sake.

Exactly what happened to me; Took the first book, destroyed the rest, spent about an hour running around trying to work out how to finnish the quest, gave up and went to google and found this thread.
Seems like a bug to me, if not then someone at bioware is an idiot with no foresight whatsoever...
Don't see how any developer can leave part of their game impossible to complete intentionally without giving the user any indication of this

I was having problems with this quest also. I wound up reading the book in Valiance Keep, next to the throne, but destroyed the others. Can't finish the quest now.

It's not so much a middle finger to the player for not following the quest description, it's the fact the journal will never update. Without an option of just removing the quest from the log or a incomplete notification, it will still feel like another bug in the game.

i think you find its not a bug it says so on the wiki page http://dragonage.wik...idden_Knowledge and i quote from this

"" This quest does seem to be available if you killed Idunna, by simply finding one of the tomes and triggering the sequence. If you kill Idunna you do not receive the letter but you can still do the quest. If you destroy the first tome, you obtain the quest. The quest was obtainable after reading the first tome come across, but it wasn't possible to complete the quest. The quest is obtainable even if you read the first tome, but it is highly discouraged to read any tome but the last. ""

So, the quest is bugged if you chose to use the books? :(

It's not bugged. That's intentional.

No, it's not. If it were intentional, the quest would terminate--it would just have a different outcome. The fact that reading or taking even a single book means that the quest never ends shows that something went wrong.

Sitting in the journal forever no matter what is not intentional game design. Games, y'know, usually say "quest failed" or something like that--or in the case of a BW game, it completes but with a different outcome than the optimal one.

You find a Dwarf cave near north exit of the Dalish camp that have the last book but only before finish the Act 2. I have no finish yet the quest because you have to fight a never ending army of demons (20-40) normal and elites in a closed room so don't know if is bugged. If finish the Qunari war of act 2 the quest is delete from the journal. I took all the books and was level 17 on hardcore before went to the cave but couldn't stop the respawn of the demons yet.

Well if i read one or this book and i have 2 extra points but never complete the quest?...this sound pretty stupid...the first part MUST BE COMPLETE and no unlock the second part...i think that is a big bug. Meaby Bioware must explain this if is not.

I didn't read any of the books, destroyed them all, playing on hard but I destroyed the book in the Sundermount thaig before destroying the books in the chantry, bone pit and viscount's keep. My journal is not updating and I cannot continue the quest and I didn't receive any attribute points.

I am having a similar problem to Soulraid. I destroyed all the books I found. Did the ones in Kirkwall first, then at each cave. Destroyed the one in Sundermount last. From what I have heard, the final book should be in Darktown somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere. There is no quest marker, and I've been over Darktown several times both day and night. Where is the final book? I even went back to the Wounded Coast and the Bone Pit, and now don't have access to the caves I destroyed the books in.

So what happens if you read and took the books and sold them to merchants? It becomes junk if you take them.
