So i played thru ME1 a long time ago. I recently bought ME2, imported my old character with no trouble, and beat ME2. I then decided to start a completely new character in ME1 and make some different choices (different name, look, class, history, everything). I just beat ME1 with this new character not ten minutes ago, however when i tried to import this character in to ME2 it did not work. My old character's save shows as able to import, and is colored green; my new charcter shows up on this list, but is colored yellow and can not be selected. I checked to see if this character can be played in a second ME 1 playthrough, and it can be. I don't understand the problem. I did play this second character thru on casual difficulty because the gameplay in ME1 is really tedious and i just wanted to get thru the story to get to ME2. Is that the problem? And please don't answer "it could be." You're not helping.
Just beat ME1, but cant import to 2?

Did you use any exploits that could have impacted the save file? One that comes to mind is Lorik Qui'in's dialogue exploit.
At any rate, I once did this on accident, but you could try replying the last sequence of ME1 with your recent character to create a new hidden save file for import into ME2. That way you can at least see if there is a difference with the same ME1 Shepard.
So you should have two saves to choose from in the Importer.

Shoot me.
Whichever file you have selected is green, all the others are yellow, and you have to scroll using the D-Pad, not the stick. Who uses the D-pad?
There was no problem except that i am dumb. Thank you for the reply though.

My problem is I rented ME1 about 2 months ago. Got a complete. Imported to ME2 with no problems. I got a used copy of my own for Mother's day. Played through and got to the end. Went through the credits and it loaded, but didn't auto save (I think). Then proceeded to import to ME2 and the old save is green, but the new one is yellow and won't work. Did I do something wrong or is it the disk itself?

As noted above, try using the D-pad.

What you've established is that the import utility can read the file, and cannot choose the file you want. Is that correct? Usually it's the silly thing of not using the D-pad that catches most people out. If the file cannot be read, then it won't even show up.
The only suggestion I can make is to go back to ME to produce another hidden file save (not an autosave the import file is not shown in the HDD) and see if that will register correctly.
