If you cancel potion/talent/attack mid animation, it will still remove the potion, subtract from your stamina/mana and send your talent/attack into cooldown with ZERO effect.

So you're trying to drink from a glass bottle and someone hits you hard enough with a sword to knock you around and you believe there should be no consequences. Bottle can spill, or break or get knocked out of your hands on to the ground.
A lot of spell systems have it so if you take damage while casting you lose the spell.
I would recommend not getting hit.

I've found running out of range helps.
As an aside, if I scream like a little girl and run because my party is dead, my health is low and my mana gone, and yet i still manage to kill the ancient rock wraith on my own, that that make my running away tactical or cowardly?

But wouldn't you think you could had SOME health/Stamina/Mana regain when the bottle is already in your mouth? I would understand if you just got bottle out. But still, doesn't really make much sense.
And say that recommendation after finding either your mage or rogue trapped at a corner. <_<

For the record, this happened in Origins, too. It's just more noticeable in DA2 because of how common interrupts are.
For potions yah ti did, but you can cancel animation for talent all day in DA:O and it either stop it from being cast or allow you to move instantly afterward, which I guess contribute to my frustration because I'm really used to animation cancelling.

Don't get trapped in a corner?
Failing that, at least for the mage:
Unshakable
Requires: Level 8
Requires: Fist of the Maker
The mage suppresses the physical and elemental force of incoming attacks, becoming nearly immune to knockdown or other effects that interrupt combat.
Fortitude: +100
Type: Passive ability
