I found a note in Gamlen's...uh...shack that activated the Gamlen's Greatest Treasure quest. I got to Darktown but there is no quest marker or anything, I've even tried going there alone. I've explored the area too to see if I could find it that way but to no avail. Do I need to wait for another event to take place, or maybe a different quest that leads me to where I want to be?

If I remember correctly.. when I did this quest, without trying to spoil too much, I believe I started by speaking immediately to Gamlen and interrogating the heck out of him about it (it immediately makes the whole conversation about the note, it seems) and then I was walking by the Elven Alienage and it appeared I had to inspect the tree once, back at Gamlen's another, and then in a cave somewhere. I don't think I'm being very helpful at all haha..

In Darktown you get into a fight. On one of the corpses is a note about Gamlen's wallop mallet -- ask Gamlen about it -- it leads you to the alienage to talk to an elf. That leads you to the Docks at night. The crate is a trap, but after the fight you find a note leading you to a cave. There you'll meet Charade.
And she isn't just anyone -- she's Gamlen's daughter.

You know where Tomwise is set up? Go down the stairs to the left and continue across the pathway to the opposite set of stairs. Go up them and talk to the mercenaries on that little platform.

EDIT: Or you could try practicing the same brand of necromancy that brought this thread back to life. <_<
