I call Witcher 2 or Skyrim to top the scales for best RPG this year. Kirkwall Chronicles will get nowhere.

As we all know Bethesda as usual will give us modtools, that will lead to a massive amount of great mods created by talented people. Which will make the game x10000 better

I'm so in love with their mod tools. What the community did to Oblivion, FO3 and FO:NV extends the playtime into the hundreds of hours. Event tho I'm not exactly one of Bethesdas biggest fans their support for the mod community is something to be praised.

it is a shame skyrim will steal all the awards from DA2
as we all know skyrim will have tons of bugs and crash every 5 min

the only problem with DA2 is are cooldown times
and i thought the DA:O characters are a little better
but everything else is much better

Witcher 2 will steal GOTY from both of them

If Skyrim is another 5-6 hour main plot game with unremarkable characters, broken combat, broken dialogue, broken levelling system... then NO. Yeah you can say that I dislike Oblivion. Most hyped RPG in the history of ever.

People forget that Two Worlds II, for example, already came out this year, so DA II is not the only RPG released so far.

It's funny that people mention the Witcher II as a competition for DA II when it shares so many similarities. Uncostumizable main character, fast paced combat with activated abilities, crappy "romance" setups... etc etc. People probably bash DA II because it's DA II, but the same things in any other game shine like gold. Seriously.

As for Risen II they have to improve a LOT from the first game. That one was painful to play through.

Just my two cents.

you sir do not know anything about other games dont you?

Skyrim is an action game, bro.

And after Fallout 3, I lost all hope in anything Bethesda makes.

I don't get how all this works. This is how I rank the Bethesda-style open world games starting with Morrowind:

1. Morrowind (favorite by far)
2. Fallout: New Vegas (loved it despite the bugs)
3. Fallout 3 (it was OK)
4. Oblivion (most disappointing RPG I can remember)

So for me, Bethesda took a huge step back with Oblivion but really only improved since then. I'm not convinced that Skyrim will be the greatest game ever, but it certainly has a chance of being fun.

I hope I don't fall asleep while playing Witcher 2, I swear listening to all that monotonous dialogue bored the hell out of me. Then when there were a few short intervals of combat all there was to the combat system was a few mouse clicks. Skyrim does look interesting from the clips but it's not something I'd be planning on buying on release date especially after how much of a bore Oblivion and Fallout 3 were. If I buy it, it'll definitely only be to support Argonians.

the witcher 2 looks like a terrible gothic/two worlds/risen remake with bad animation and clunky graphics/design

i think mass effect 3 will steal the show in terms of GOTY awards, considering its a trilogy, much like any movie trilogy for oscars like LOTR will end up winning the last year's awards solely because its the end of their trilogy and the awards are for the whole series, not just the last movie

ahahahahaha stop bashing the witcher 2 fanboy as im sure it will ****** all over DA II

My vote goes to the RPG with the most immersive world and the fewest moronic fetch quests.

That will most likely be TW2.

IMHO, there is almost no way DA2 will win GOTY. Even among the reviews praising it, there are few who see it as top quality. PC gamer and The Escapist, as far as i remember. Others have been garnishing it with high 7's and 8's. While good, To compete for Game of the Year? I don't think so.

There's alot of stiff competition coming out this year, more than last.

With Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 (Bioware against itself!), Human Revolution, The Witcher 2, Gears of War 3, Dead Space 2, Portal 2, Rage, Max Payne 3, Dead Island, a New Zelda, etc etc... i find it hard to believe DA2 will win many GOTY awards. Depends on how well all of those do.

Nominations though? Sure.

Skyrim is a very different game, esp. given its sandbox nature.

The Witcher 2 is definitely a contender, as is ME3. I hope DA2 will do well on its own though.

It's rpg of the year because nothing else has come out lol.

Skyrim will probably take it though. I don't trust Bioware to make ME3 amazing enough, after the stories in ME2 and DA2.

DE:HR I am worried about as I don't know if they can recapture the brilliance that was Deus Ex - that is seriously one of the best, if not THE best, FPV RPG games I've ever played (and I still play it 13 years on). I just don't think they can pull off another Deus Ex 1...musically they will, which will please me as I loved the music from DE but gameplay & story...we shall see.

Skyrim looks really promising to me. It's as though Bethesda realised where they went wrong on Oblivion and are working on doing it right this time. When I modded it up I had great fun on Oblivion, sneaking around stealing stuff, doing what I wanted to do. I haven't finished the plot to either Morrowind or Oblivion, despite how many times I've played both, and thats because there is so much to do that interests me without bothering with the storylines. Little worried they've set the release date as 11.11.11 - either they are really confident of finishing it in time or it's pretty much there already.

Witcher 2 I am intrigued about. I was plagued by Witcher 1 crashing every 20 minutes on my system, which was a pain as I didn't ever finish it as I soon had enough of the crashes (but then Silent Hunter V also crashed every 20 minutes). However I did enjoy it for the amount of time I played it, so if Witcher 2 doesn't crash on my system I can only see myself really enjoying the Witcher 2.

Dragon Age 2 does not deserve to be a Game of the Year. It could not earn that accolade, not a chance for so many reasons that have been iterated on these forums since release.

Before DA2 came out I reckoned that the GOTY was going to come down too 4 games, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3, TES V: Skyrim, and The Witcher 2.

Now having bought and played Dragon Age 2 (and completed and on second playthru!) DA2 has absolutely NO chance of being named RPG Game of the Year. None.
While I love the game, I can not ignore the glaring flaws that the game has, that I am sure by now everyone is familiar with:-
Recycling of the same 10 areas over and over and over again for the entire game.
The many many bugs quite lot of which cause CTDs.
The really sucky stock background/landscape textures.
The fact that the ending was really quite abrupt and felt somewhat contrived.
The fact that for the cost the game was really short and didnt meet expectations and promises.
The lack of tactical camera that PC users were promised would be present.
The fact that we were promised varying body types depending on class and race, we only got one universal body type that was resized to accomodate various races and classes.
The fact that we no longer have cut scenes for any sort of love making at all now.
Etc, Etc, Etc..

Some of these flaws are fairly glaring, and will defeat Dragon Age 2 in the attempt to become GOTY. Bioware's hope will now lie with Mass Effect 3 and its development team that seem to think women are sex objects (if we go by how the romancable women were treated in ME2) and gays no longer exist (if we go by the fact that they go out of their way to not allow gay male romances but allow lesbian romances) by the 23rd century.
Joy.

I think now Skyrim has really good chance at beating out Bioware's efforts this year. Which is a shame because I absolutely hate Bethesda as a development house; sick and tired of buying their games and being treated like little more than an unpaid beta tester for the modding community to patch the games properly.
Its a sad day when Bethesda have a chance at beating Bioware...

Here's hoping that CD Projekt pulls a rabbit out of their hats with The Witcher 2 and totally destroys Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 (the latter only to prove a point to Bioware about following the Bethesda business model as they seem to be doing of late).

I don't know who's going to get what awards, I can only speak for my own anticipated experience. I loved Oblivion and the Fallout games, but definitely not as much as the Dragon Age games. It's possible that they could have fixed the problems with Skyrim, but I'm not holding my breath since I've come to expect things like excrutiatingly long loading screens and constant crashes from those games. I also have other issues, like the fact that the Oblivion gates were so boring and tedious (I hope they aren't in Skyrim) and things like in Fallout New Vegas where I saved an important character in the game, which was hard as heck and clearly not what the developer intended but allowed, (not giving name or place so as not to give spoiler) who said we should work together but then completely disappeared for the rest of the game as if he'd died. Now I don't mean to make it sound like I didn't enjoy those games, I did a great deal. BUT I will take Dragon Age's love interest tradition (the thing that I really enjoy that stands out for me as I feel a greater "connection" to the game), more interesting companions, better spells and skills, shorter loading screens, and less freezing every time when given a choice. As for The Witcher I didn't like the first one so I don't see why I'd like the second, but I'll give it a try. The PC exclusivity was my biggest deal breaker on that - don't like mouse/keyboard controls.

If Skyrim at least has a story that I can stay awake during, it takes the cake over DA2 any day.

In the last month I bought first Test Drive unlimited 2, I was waiting for it from years, and bah.... i don't even know how to start to describe my delusion.
Now it's the turn of DA 2 as soon as I stopped playing DAO I was already waiting for it... and well i can't say it's a let down like TDU 2 but it's not what i was expecting.

Seems like every big company this year is trying to cash in the faith customers have in them with half finished games.

Now i'm waiting for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on PC, The Withcer 2 and Skyrim. I just hope they won't let me down or I'll lose faith in video game industry ;)
