I'm really excited about the 360 review. It seems to be right on par and equivalent to the PC version. Definitely getting the 360 version now.

"While EA and BioWare were off courting the lowest common denominator with their sex and violence campaign for Dragon Age: Origins, RPG gamers without thumb callouses and an appreciation for a multi-faceted d20 were left holding the pram."

I stopped reading there.

Eh, the same site that gave fallout 3 10 out of 10. A game which basicaly butchered everything the original Fallout stood for... A game with no story, a very bad leveling system, one dymensional characters, naive dialogue etc, and it gets a max score... because it looks good. Also, giving a max score to any game is in itself wrong, because it means there can't be a game better than it...

You should have kept reading because it says a few sentences down that they were eating their own words and praising the game.

You should use more full stops. Fallout 3 is an excellent game worthy of at least 9.5/10. Despite what you may think, Fallout 3 was in fact better received and sold than Fallout 1 and 2 with a broader range of audience.

Clearly Fallout 3 had more widespread appeal but it pales in comparsison to Fallout and Fallout 2 as an RPG.

So true. At least obsidian is working on Fallout: New Vegasin the fallout 3 engine. maybe they won't butcher it.

Eh reviews are nothing but spoilers and oppinions in the first place, and Im going to do a bit of ranting about it.

From that first bit I could tell I definately wasnt the same kind of gamer as him and that he was a douchebag. Anyone going around with the Console = Casual mindset is an idiot and what they have to say isnt relative to my interests XD, Ive never played BG and being told Im a mouthbreathing casual for not being into games in that era tells me what kind of person that is. I am of course stereotyping people.

That and the fact that he walks all over himself later on to give the game a high score after stating he thinks hes a "hardcore"(I know he didnt say it with that word, but you can tell) PC RPGer doesnt say a whole lot about his character. I play 360 games just as much as I play PC games, be it FPS/RTS/RPG/Action RPGs/Racers etc, and playing simple fun games doesnt make you a "Casual".

And FO3 definately wasnt a 10/10. I love the game, and Ive never played FO1-2 to have the nostalgic hate, but it was definately not a 10/10.

Edit: Might I add that Im a hyppocrite.

I've got to admit my biggest fear with DA:O is that it's dumbed down too much to the consoles.

And that's not a slam to Consolers - it's just that I can come up with a pretty formidable list of original PC games whose sequels were over-simplified thanks to multi-platform development. I really hope Bioware stayed true to their PC roots.

Yeah. I've been hearing that for about 12 years now, but somehow there are still really great titles finding their way to my PC.

True, but then again being a RPG is not even a requirement for being a good game.

Please use correct tenses for verbs. Well, are you saying that Fallout 3 is more sucessful then? It doesn't matter if it's successful due to its graphics, which is a very important factor by the way. As great as Dragon Age Origin's storyline may be, if it comes out with Infinity engine's level of graphics in 2009, the game will suffer a disasterous sale.

Well, a tiny article from a video game site said it, so it must be true.

But regardless, I never said the PC gaming industry was impervious to decline - I just said it wasn't dying. And it will never be dead.

All I said in my first post was that multi-platform development tends to hurt the PC side of games. Look at the sequels to Deus Ex and Thief - 2 of the greatest PC games ever made. They decide to develop for both PC and Console and we got crap. Tiny little areas with frequent load times, low-res textures, simplified controls.

I'm not going to rip on console gamers - it's a matter of preference and budget, that's it.

Those games are old games. Nowadays whether a port is good or not completely depends on the developers.

Resident Evil 4 for example was a horrible port, and PC gamers got the short end of the stick. Resident Evil 5 and Batman Arkham Asylum on the other hand both have better graphics on PC compared to console. It was not luck which decided whether a port will be better or worse, it were the developers.

Fair enough. I've been in MMO-land the past 6 years so my views might be slightly outdated. :D

But even games as new as Oblivion and Fallout 3 suffer some minor side effects. Thankfully both of those games have strong mod communities which can more than make up for whatever was lacking on launch day.

Well, a game is subjectively good, and if you want to bring in success of games as a measure you have to look at the increase of gamers and change in demographic.
It was a good game, but in my opinion worth about 8, not 10 (FO3)

If success of a game is a pointer to quality, that means WiiSports is the best game ever.

What I find funny about this whole 'PC gaming is dead' debate is that people kept saying that about the PS2: "This is the last year for the PS2," and then the next year rolls around and they say the exact same thing again when the console's lasted almost a decade and it's STILL selling (even though I hear they're officially stopping the production of PS2 games this year, it might just be the opinion of the sales rep at EB Games).

I say that PC gaming is dead when the last copy of the last PC game ever made has been sold and they aren't making them anymore. :P

Also, I should say that I like playing on consoles too, but I can only afford a PSP and a DS right now, so I don't understand what this whole "dumbing down the game for consoles" is about. It's the same game, right? All that's changed is that they took out one of the camera angles. It's not like Bioware said: "Console gamers are morons, so let's take out this quest because it's too sophisticated for the average console gamer."

Success > Quality. Otherwise game developers will not get paid.

You really shouldn't have used WiiSports as an example though. The only reason that game has some of the highest "sales" is because it comes packed with every Wii sold.

@Serpent-eyes
Well said.

Funny little side fact:
Starcraft was among the top 10 sales last year.

Lol. Let's see 14 million plus WOW players and another several million in other MMOS. Over 20 Million gamers on Steam and another several million on other digital game services. Titles like Sims 3 selling 7 Million Copies, and upcoming Pc exclusives like star trek online, Star Wars the old Republic, Diablo III, Star Craft II....

Oh yeah! PC gaming is dying alright!

:blink::lol:
