Alright, thanks for the clarification. [----This part removed because nobody likes spoilers, even in mods. Not that that is necessarily going to happen. But y'know.----]

Grey Wardens do NOT turn in Darkspawn. as far as I understand, they are immune to corruption but have a shortened lifespawn (the reason they go in the deep roads). The infection by Darkspawn happens because they spew their blood over their victims (either purposely or not). drinking it is actually a different thing, since instead of corrupting your tissues and brain it either kills you or makes you immune.

/SPOILER

Have you read "The Calling" by David Gaider? I believe Grey Wardens do infact turn into Darkspawn eventually. That what was happening to Duncan's group in the Deep Roads, though the process was sped up through those trinkets they got from the mages.

Hang on, there's no official man on man action with Alistair? That sucks!

No I have not read "The Calling". It has not reached our bookshops yet.

I'm wondering, how does everyone feel about spoilers with mods? I would like development for the mod to be transparent, but I don't want to tarnish the experience by giving everything away before-hand.

only developers should get all the spoilers. or you could make, as a pre-requisite, to have completed the game at least once. In order to better understand the spirit of it.

I would have to make a group to have a dev team, right?

Of which I have none yet... not that I'm not looking. Any ideas on when and how I should get a team together?

bear in mind this is only my opinion.

first of all: play the game, tag Alistair along and get to understand the character AND define your goal.

secondly: since you already have a Project Page and a thread, publicize it. add both to your signature.

thirdly: technical knowledge. I personally think that with a bit of cut-paste (Wavepad comes to mind) Alistair in-game dialogue can be used, but oh well, you're the boss.

and last: ask for help, in a nice way. if there's interest people will flock at you.

Thanks. Yeah, I would like to create new dialogue for Alistair. I may use some of it, but like I've said, this isn't not a simple bi-Alistair mod, and I don't think his existing dialogue will work for what I've got in mind (not that I won't use what I can).

I'm getting the Calling novel. I might also pick up the prima guide.

I know it is not a simple mod. It would be a shame if a game so complex like Dragon Age got simplistic mods, where there was not the heart of the modders. But... I, for one, like too much the companions with voice. That's why I say to cut-paste dialogue. I can't imagine to hear Alistair with a different voice.

You'd think God would forbid otherwise.

Alistair may or may not be "straight." Obviously he is programmed to normally accept only female romantic interests. Yet, if we consider the way sexuality works, we know that things are not black and white. He may not be so low on the Kinsey scale; there are certainly interactions with male player-characters which are open to a more homoerotic interpretation (some would say he seems more "gay" than Zevran). There's also outside influence to consider, such as the Chantry and his familial obligations (as previously discussed), so just because he does not act on possible homosexual urges does not mean he does not have them.

Indeed, this is speculation. Yet, the game allows for it; Alistair does not even hint at being exclusively heterosexual--we're merely not able to engage him as male characters. But, as we are capable of modding the game, we get to decide. It's about exploring a possibility--which I would think is in the spirit of open games like Dragon Age.

It seems like it would be more fitting if all the characters were bisexual. That is not to say they wouldn't have unique romantic challenges--which is one of the things I am striving to address with this mod. I'm not seeking to merely make Alistair be bisexual; rather, I'm exploring under what circumstances he might be, and how he may cross the the thresholds between sexuality, passion, and camaraderie. With Alistair in particular, it does not feel like such a leap.

Again, this is open to interpretation. If you disagree, please feel free to not play the mod, though within the mod you will have the options to not only reject his advances but also to not egg him on. Should you choose such decisions, you'll only see more of the same borderline behavior which I think already exists in the game. The mod will leave it up to you to explore deeper what may be beneath that behavior. I do not plan on making it obvious and it will require some tact. I also do not dismiss the possibility that the player is manipulating Alistair into being more receptive; in some situations the player may be able to coerce or seduce Alistair into doing something he wouldn't otherwise do. Of course, care would have to be taken or else face ramifications (it kind of reminds me of the whole Morrigan situation).

I feel I should emphasize this isn't some perverted sex mod, though. I am not taking the camaraderie aspect lightly. The masculine bond already present in the game--a combination of being Wardens, suffering tragedy together, and working towards a common goal--will be greatly expanded on.

I understand what you mean. I love Alistair's voice, and I'll of course be disappointed if someone cannot emulate it well. If it comes down to it, I'll leave out voice acting, in the hope that in the future a good impersonator will come along. If only I were rich and could somehow get the actual voice actor. =P

This game turned out incredibly well. I can almost imagine the characters live a life of their own. that's why your idea needs careful planning.

Wow. I'm very impressed by your response! Great explanation. I can see how Alistair doesn't make any exclusive claims to heterosexuality (The "licking lampposts in the winter" conversation comes to mind here).

Very interesting concept you've got going overall, though. I'm impressed, even moreso with the fact that this isn't meant to be a perverted sex mod. I commend your honest efforts in creating an interesting, deep, and meaningful subplot. I wish you the best of luck on it. =]

I'm assuming you planned on using something from Warden's Keep?

I was considering it. Or, at least, something based on what happens there.

Well, if it will give the subplot itself a more satisfying level of completeness, I can't see why not. I think it would add a nice touch.

Then again, I may be biased, because I have both expansions already. :3 Haha.
