Call me an antisocial guy, but I prefer to play alone. It's not like I have a lot of friends and relatives with a console and the same games, and also...Live Gold is kinda expensive for me.
Besides, I like to explore, to take my time, and don't have to be following another guy who wants to rush.
I don't support multiplayer in DA3, and I don't think I'll ever will, just my two cents.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm all for singleplayer games. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be against having the option of cooperative play, particularly when that option had given me and my friends some fantastic gaming sessions in the past (I still remember more about our LAN campaign of Baldurs Gate 1 than I remember about anything else in that game, strangely enough).

Having an online multiplayer option in a meny somewhere wouldn't prevent you from enjoying the singeplayer game. Well, assuming that they give the singleplayer the care it deserves (BG1 and 2 were successful there...NWN wasn't).

I would not worry about MP, after the events of the last 24 hours I think we'd be lucky to even see a single player DA3, I'm not kidding when I say it's like watching a train wreck.

He had his experiment with DA2.

Time to let someone else take the reigns of the series.

Please?

As long as single player content doesn't suffer for it.

I'd be interested in multiplayer if we're talking about a DnD style multiplayer and a technical framework that would support NWN style persistent worlds and what not.

However, if you're going to sacrifice a story and a tight single player experience for the sake of churning out yet another tired and boring "brokiller" style multiplayer i.e. MW and it's various roster updates--count me out. I'd rather play an mmo.

So now I can press the "awesome" button with friends. At the same time! Then it will be like super awesome! When can I preorder DA3?

Mike, no. Knock this **** off. You've already sunk $300 million into The Old Republic, and you'll have enough fun keeping that running once it's done.

Stick to what you guys have proved you know best, an immersive single player experience.

What does mike laidlaw have to do with SWTOR?

I hope not, but if they do make it mulitplayer that it is an option rather than an absolute. I'm not opposed to multiplayer I just don't like forced ones. I don't really play MMPORGs. I am curious about The Old Republic, but not excited since it's multiplayer. I prefer to play my games myself or occaissionally with a friend like in Fable 3.

I agree. It would be great if there was an option for example to have a friend take over a companion role but if playing single that companion was still available fully. I don't want another coooperative game. I don't want my games to depend on how many/few people can play that evening.

You do not want to bring that aspect to these games.
I ran a Everquest guild for years , this community is not suited for MMO.

MMO is not about story , it's min max paradise.
If you want to be ignored because you don't have the best gear.
Be sworn at non stop by group members because you are not doing what you are told.

They would need to add Raid style encounters.
Others have done MMO it's too late to compete , don't try .
For god sakes some companies who created mmo's are giving them away for free.

Well, this is certainly hopeful news. Multiplayer would add a level of depth and longevity that a single player game simply cannot reach on its own.

Are you saying that Baldur's Gate 2 was an MMORPG?

There are different kinds of multiplayer, you know?

Nooooooo. No no no no no.

Oh God NO!

Apparently creating these games is too resource-intensive to even provide us map diversity anymore. I don't want them allocating their time to something like that. If development resources weren't an issue I'd support a co-op type multiplayer function - but resources are an issue.

I can't help but laugh. No wonder DA2 feels like a single player MMORPG to me. They're laying the groundwork....

Longevity, perhaps. As long as the servers exist.
Depth...how?

DA:O was no different. I can tell you up to 10 WoW encounters that reminded me of the Queen of the Blackmarsh and at least one raid boss that was much like the Baroness.

I've felt the criticism Bioware and DA2 have been getting recently has been a bit harsh (though somewhat deserved, especially for their hubris), but this is the final straw.

Mike Laidlaw has to go, give him his own ip if this is the sort of thing he wants to do. Bring someone into the Dragon Age franchise who has reverence for the source material

Did I miss where they said it would be an mmo like multiplayer as opposed to the one we saw in Baldur's Gate and such?

Why not? It is a party based game, it worked fine in NWN and BG.

NWN single player gameplay suffered for it's intended multiplayer focus.  As for BG, it obviously didn't stop them being great single player games, but I'm sceptical as to whether the multiplayer mode was used by many players.

So the matter isn't that 'OMG MULTIPLAYER SUCKS AND ISN'T A CORE RPG MECHANIC' but rather how its implemented.

Well, if they don't rush, I think they can do a good job.
