So I went around and killed all three mercanry companies for Sebastien Vael's introduction quest "Duty", but there is still a marker for the band at the docks. When I return there, no enemies appear and there are no lootable items. Any idea's on how to fix/what went wrong?

I am also having that problem. Not sure why the quest marker is there on the map when there is nothing there to loot, kill, or talk to.

The problem here was the journal for killing the enemies there did not trigger, mostly caused by people going down that sewer hole thing after they kill everyone accidentally.

It's impossible to undo so you're stuck without Sebastian unless you restart, have an old save, or they figure out a way to do a retroactive patch.

Ah ok thanks guys, yeah it does suck, but I got the impression Sebastian is a rogue anyway, luckily I made Hawke a rogue too. So this problem only happens when you run down into the sewers after killing the group of mercenaries, or is it just that the journal itself does not acknowledge the quest requirements being fulfilled?

I have Sebastian as a party member. I just wasn't able to do the quests.

Sebastian joins at the beginning of Act 3, no matter what. I guess to have him for Act 2, you just have to do the quests.
