I was under the impression that you couldn't change weapons for your companions. Some of the DLC weapons can be equiped on your pals. But not all of them. Wonder whats up with that.

I also experienced that. My mage has a new staff for instance..
Why isnt it possible to just change the weapons for all team members.. I cant understand that decision for DA2...

You can, but only to that school they can get skill points in.
Fenris/Carver, two hand.
Aveline, Sheild/Sword
Merrill/Anders/Bethany, staves.
Sebastian, Bows.
Isabella, Daggers.

I was going to say.. the only character that can't change weapons is Varric. So long as they're within their given class restraints, you can give any character any weapon you want.
The reason you can't change Varric's weapon is that its his story and his crossbow is named and unique. Thus, Varric always carries Bianca. On the plus side, if you let him keep the peice of the idol you find in Bartrands house in act 3, Bianca upgrades into Ultra-mega-badass Bianca ;p
