I like to play whorish characters.  Unfortunately, DAII seems to be making that dificult.

I've already slept with Isabela and Merrill, and now Merrill has moved in.  Is it still possible to romance the other characters, or switch a to a different romance?  I don't particularly like her, I was just leading her on like the cruel bastard I am...  But now I seem to be stuck.  Help?  Advice?  Hints?  I'd really rather have my warden end in a male romance.

Hope I'm posting in the proper forum, here.

I haven't gotten that far yet, but if it's anything like past Bioware games, there will eventually be a point where the only conversation you can start with them for awhile is them telling you they're so happy you love them... you still love them, right? And there'll be an option to tell them, no, actually, get bent.

That's what I was hoping for, diving in... But after Merrill moved in, I haven't been able to flirt with any of the other options. I'm not sure if that's just the path the game takes, or if I've screwed myself over.

Once a character moves in in Act 3 it seems you can't flirt with other characters anymore. Or at least that was the case with Fenris/Anders. I was able to flirt with Fenris a couple times after the first sex scene with Anders, but both times were when he was angry and he didn't have any interest in my advances at the time. In Act 3 I wasn't able to flirt with him at all anymore. =(

Is Fenris a puritanical monogamist? I'm hoping my rollick with Isabela isn't going to hurt my chances at a romance with him.

Anyways, I'm under the impression that the act of moving in ends the romance scripts with other companions. Did some multiple romance testing with Anders and Merrill; left their Act 2 Questionable Beliefs quests incomplete then tried to figure out how the coding works. Boring list of test results below. As I mentioned earlier, this testing was done with a one-night stand with Isabela.

(SPOILERS REST OF POST.)

Conclusions: Progressing normally with either character's romance during the quest turn-in yields a nighttime visit to Hawkes estate. For these two characters, ending a romance before you engage the other person is acceptable behavior. Merrill never mentions your romantic history, but Anders will always ask your official status and if you dump him for your most recent bedding he has something catty to say about them. Also, Merill will only get the cool white outfit if you let her move in, it's not enough to just sleep with her. Again, as disclaimer I did the one night stand bit with Isabella earlier in the act.

Flirted with Anders during QB. Went and flirted with Merrill during QB. Went to Hawkes; Anders arrives first. He makes sure it's over with Isabela. Boink and let him move in. Merrill doesn't show when I revisit Hawkes estate.

Flirted with Merrill during QB. Went and flirted with Anders during QB. Went to Hawkes; Anders still arrives first. He makes sure it's over with Isabela. Boink and broke his heart. Merrill doesn't show when I revisit Hawkes estate.

Flirted during Anders QB, he shows up to Hawkes at night, he of course asks about Isabela. Boink and broke his heart. Went and flirted with Merrill during QB, she shows up to Hawkes at night. Boink, let her move in. Famous white outfit.

Flirted during Merrill QB, she shows up to Hawkes at night. Boink and broke her heart. No white outfit. Went and flirted with Anders during QB, he shows up to Hawkes at night and asks about Merrill. Boink, blah blah blah.

Rigamarole with Merrill, let her move in. White outfit. Anders doesn't flirt during his QB afterwards.

Rigamarole with Anders, let him move in. Merrill thanks you for your comforting but doesn't show up to Hawkes at night.

edit: also did a few versions without letting them sleep with me to see if that created some leniency in the other companion's script, but same results as above; timing more important than what you did.

Hmm, I'm really not liking the way romances appear to be set up, in this game. Oh well. Thanks Lawlita, that was incredibly helpful. Guess I'll be romancing Fen on my second play-through, then. Damn you, Merrill!

I started with relations with Isabella, then Merrill, who moved in (white outfit).  My dialogue is still giving romance options for Isabella, although, it hasn't gone very far as of yet...
