I've been playing for 9 hours now and I haven't come across any Mage attire aside from an Adept's Hood that was loot and the Mercenary vest from upon the entrance at Kirkwall. Are there any specific places I should be looking for robes/armor? markets? maybe a reward from quests?

There is a vendor in Sundermount that I think *only* has mage stuff and there were at least a few good pieces. You go up one of the paths behind the Dalish camp (I think its the right one, don't quote me) and there's a random mage with a shop not far outside one of the caves. I also have no idea where in the timeline he shows up...

Sorry I can't be more helpful but that's all I remember.

There's also the mage shop in the gallows, near the guy for the Herbalist's Tasks quest.

In Act II there's a mage shop in the Wounded Coast on the opposite side of the map from the entrance. He has some of the better blood magic items in Act II. He's there in Act III too, but his stuff was generally less useful.

thanks for the suggestions. by any chance has anyone finished the game? Do you ever get the ultimate mage armor that Hawke has at the start of the game?

In Act II, there's a quest you can stumble across on the wounded coast. The boss drops (or dropped for me) the Robe of the Notorious Pirate. Not better than what you can buy, but better-looking (IMO).

I'm now 21 hours into the game and I still have ugly or glitched robes. I bought Superior black robes and a purple velvet vest... sigh, and the Spiral eye set is glitched, the hands don't match the skin type of my character, Bioware made it like a big body suit.

I've been to the Wounded coast but I haven't found Notorious Pirate armor from any enemy. Hopefully I find something that doesn't look stupid. I was tricked into thinking Mages would have cool stuff in this game.

I found lots of robes in shops. I don't know why you aren't coming across any mage items. I am currently at the time right after I got my new home in Kirkwall.
