I am still just getting started in the game, but I have gotten my party to the level where I can start experimenting with cross class combos.   I _REALLY_ like this aspect of the game...much more than I thought I would.   Its the first time I have ever got out paper and tried to plan out how I wanted to setup each party member.   (Played Origins on normal, playing DA2 on hard).

I wish the UI was a bit better around when something was exploitable.   It'd be awesome if an enemy glowed blue or something when staggering.   In the heat of the battle its tough to tell whats going on unless I plan and pause VERY slowly.  I'm sure I'll get better at it as the game goes on.  As far as I can tell the closest in there is the 'status' toggle, which doesn't show exploitable status, just stunned?   I have noticed that 'stagger' seems to mean the enemy is pushed back...but maybe that is a force side effect of Shield Bash?

Further, can you trigger tactics based on 'stunned' status?   Specifically, I want to    "If stunned then pummel blow", to setup a stagger.

(I am mostly focused on stagger/disorient, since I am playing main party of  Aveline/Isabela/Anders  and Hawke mage.)

Yeah I know you can trigger based on STAGGER, but what about stunned?

Stunned is a pre-req for Pummel Blow to cause STAGGER.

There is a status 'Cannot attack'. Closest one i can think of.

When the upgrade Pommel Blow says STAGGER 100% for stunned enemies, this is refering to what the unupgraded Pommel Strike does. In other words, you do not need some other talent to pre-stun before your warrior hits them to stagger them. If they would have been stunned by the unupgraded version, they are now staggered. Hope that helps.

OOOOH!!!!!!   Wow, thanks man.      This changes my Isabela build, maybe I don't need the miasmic flask AOE to stun enemies......

Turns out I want the Fog upgrade at lvl13 for AOE disorient, so I pretty much need Miasmic anyway to get the points required.

After playing for a while, with a focus on combos, I realized that the game actually DOES give you a visual indication of when an enemy is exploitable.   In the ability descriptions each combo status has an icon next to it.   I didn't realize, but that same icon gets put on enemies when they are in that state.   Its not a huge indicator, but its something visual at least!
