The thing the ending for lacked was something that would get us looking forward to the next, it just has Lianna looking at a book than credits. Comparing that to say mass effect 2 where the end it showed a metric ton of reapers powering up and made me want the 3rd even more where DA2 didn't quite give me that feeling.

I thikn the most disappointing thing about the ending to me, other than the fact that no choices you made in the game matter, is that it's not the end. It's only year 7.

If you load your save you're told that to continue playing the game that Bioware has hyped for a year now as a "10 year span" you're told that to see the rest you have to purchase the DLC.

That is utter trash.

I'm sorry....are you serious???? I'm just up to Act 3 and I was wondering how they were going to fit in the other 4 years and to find that out we have to BUY the DLC when it comes out! That is just serious BS!!! :pinched:

Depends. If a developer makes you pay $60-70 for a new game, and then tells you you need to spend another $10-15 to get the "real" ending, doncha think that might make a few people mad? If the DLC is free, that would rectify most of the complaints in this thread, but the likely hood of BioWare & EA offering any significant DLC for free seems approximately  zero to none. I would like them to surprise me though.

yeah i knew i was closing in on the end being in act 3 and it says year 7... ive been wondering where the last 3 years magically come from.

then again do i really want to explore kirkwall and the surrounding areas for a 7th and 8th time in one playthrough? (day + night x 3 acts is 6 times.... add another act and it jumps to 8 times).

i knew EA was a money grubber, but gfg if they make people buy DLC just to finish a stand-alone game.
thats hitting rock bottom not giving a crap about your customers greed.

I liked the ending.

The game was about Hawke and his rise to be champion and how he fit in to the Cirle/Templar/Chantry conflict. We got an end to that, ok it was almost the same other than which side you chose, but it was still an ending.

Then we got more about the world of Thedas as a whole and how the Circe/Templar/Chantry conflict has changed it, and where Hawke may or maynot be now as a bit of a cliffhanger.

Remember that the interrogation of varric is supposedly 3 years after the ending so technically it is a 10 year game....its just rather loose in the interpretation of it.

It reminded me a lot of the Witcher actually in that it had an ending....again depending on the faction or neutral decision you took, then you got a cliffhanger ending after that.
I liked that too.

Ending was trash. But about Act 2 I kinda figured we'd get DLC. To many loose ends.

I didn't like the ending, but as you know, it is told by Varric and he does not know wher the Champion is. The lack of choise in the end is mostly Ander's and Meredith's fault, but let's not resort to spoilers.

He is just talking about something he has no idea of -- nor has any of us. There might be an expansion, awakening style, but I doubt we will buy an ending. We can say that Origin's didn't end, because the Darkspawn is said to still be on the surface in an epilogue slide.

What made me upset. I didn't expect it to end so abruptly. I was like, fine I killed the mage and templar. Let's go unto the next Act. Maybe one of finding Kirkwall a new leader, blah blah. And instead Bioware decides to end it on me.
I was pissed.

This is how I felt.  When I saw the credits, I immediately closed the game out I was so disappointed.  I just thought, "oh, great.  They get to force feed me the complete game $9.99 at a time in 2 hour increments now."

The game pretty much ends with Leliana closing the book, to me. Whatever happen to Hawke, I couldn't care less now. After all, Hawke and me are separate person. He is Varric's main character while I just control him from outside the monitor which is not what I want. So, why do I have to bother? I would rather buy novels or rent movies than paying more for video games. The thing is, I want to be inside the world to feel deeply involved and not just controlling a talking live puppet. Hawke's story ends. No DLC whatsoever for me. Time for DA 3 and new character.

What if the DLC ending turned out to be well worth both the price and the wait?

Orsino seemed one of the most reasonable people in Kirkwall, which seems to be full of nothing but insane jerks and bloodmages. Then suddenly he turns insane, whines something and attacks his only ally.

I was so horribly disappointed with that crappy ending.

if I need to pay extra to get a satisfying well writen ending then something is really really REALLY wrong.

Same thing with the books and comix about a game. IF it's not in the game that was paid 60$ than it's obviously not important. If it IS that important THAN PUT IT IN THE GAME!

DLC is cancer pure and simple.

 For the 10 years thing

1:  Prologue (well the thing after the prologue where you work for that person for a year)
2:  Act 1
3-5: Between Act1 and Act 2
6: Act 2
7-9 Between Act 2 and Act 3
10: Act 3

Thats how i think of it at least. I was also dissaponted with the ending. Im wondering what happened with Leliana and my Warden. I ended awakening saying that they were travelling together in my epologue. Also i never went into the mirror on that file cuz i screwed it up somehow. I would at least thought that Leliana would know where my warden was. My game also messed up the ending saying Issabella stayed with me when i went with marril. Maybe the game thought that i went with morgana and the next game will be my warden and morgana, and my rogue champion and issabella. This would mean it didnt want me to have 2 mages or something.

Year 10 is the 'current' year which Varric is being interrogated by Cassandra.

Yeah, the Leliana thing has me a bit apprehensive. It kinda seems like the BioWare people are attempting to emulate the whole KOTOR Revan thing, where the Warden goes off to unknown parts leaving everyone behind. It was lame then, it's lame now. Hopefully they got a better explanation, especially to the Leliana romance players. I would love to know what happened, or better yet, play through it. Guess we'll see.

I personally think the games story was amazing. The ending was also great, I love how they did it. The fact that they left this mystery and showed that the warden also "disappeared," makes it really interesting. What happened? I can't wait until the third game or an expansion. I've read both novels and played all the games. The change from origins to DA2 was a concern to me, but they pulled it off, although I still like origins style better in terms of tactics and combat/design/etc. I do love the main character having a voice and personality.

You shouldn't all bash the end of the game. If there was closure there would leave no desire for more. I applaud bioware. Great job, thanks for this amazing game.

i think the ending story was ok, it didnt bother me.

i would have preferred a more challenging end game sequence though as it felt all the final bosses were easier than the mid-game bosses, but whatever i suppose.

it does sort of bother me though, its like they got done with act2 and were too close to deadline and just crammed some tiny bit of quests and easy bosses and called it act 3.

even then last i checked im still missing the last 3 years of the game >.>

i did enjoy the game for what it was, but good god bioware took the short bus on this release, no offense.

when you see ads on TV saying "epic story spanning 10 years" and you finish the game on year 7.... hello short bus.

i will say this though.

when i got done with mass effect 2, i was ready to jump back on mass effect 1 and start over.

im not sure ill play this game a second time, and it gave me zero desire to play DAO again as it would make almost zero difference in DA2.

There really is no good reason to replay it. You will just get the same end and same events.

Utter bollocks.

If a game is good and the story interesting, people will want more. Closure is there to give the feeling of completion and resolution. It doesn't make people not want more.
