Soloing with mage seems very real to me.

80% hp heal = win
tons of defence spells = win
cone of cold = best mage spell in game = win
walking bomb = high damage aoe = win

Seriously, I can kite any amount of any nonteleporting meele mobs just with
cone of cold and some occasional heal spell.

another benefit is build I call "Arcane Warrior of DA2"

Basicly trick it that you level up magic/con/str and become blood mage and use +atk staff,
such as the one from black emporium and big armor, like blood dragon one. With some str,
you even dont need to take force mage for fortitude and try BM/SH combo

Mage solo is all about surviving until you get unshakeable at 8, then things become much easier.

Interesting discussion. Not much of a soloist myself (I'm a compulsive perfectionist/optimizer type, so knowing my protagonist is doing 1/4 of the damage he could have done due to lack of CCCs is unbearable :)). Hypothetically, if I were to solo the game, I'd go auto-attack archer Rogue with heavy emphasis on stealth. Specs: Assassin, Shadow (obviously). With high Cun and enough Dex to wield the best +CriticalRange bow available, your auto-attack damage will be the best you can possibly achieve solo without CCCs. It's also less considerably less risky than going DW.

Not to mention ranged Assassinate is ridiculous.

Not a big fan, but a decent substitute for Arrow of Slaying, yes.

lol Goodluck, going solo on Nightmare is impossible.
If you get past the deep roads in Act 1, I'll be shocked. The Giant Spider and Dragon are impossible on nightmare.

No character is capable of soloing on nightmare level.  It can barely be done with a full group of four.

Lol?  The game gets progressively easier as you level up, even though enemies scale with your level.  The only thing remotely hard about Nightmare are the boss fights, or those that have an extremely cheap gimmick to it (looking at you, Blackpowder).  Then again, I'm playing with two Primal Mages, so YMMV.

cone of cold = best mage spell in game = win

Hardly.  While it may be "useful" for a soloing Mage, it's not the best spell, and it's pretty worthless if you're in a party.  Also, are we just talking about the main plot quests?  Because there are some sidequests that are literally impossible for any class to solo just because of the way they are setup, and the limited room you have.  Night Lies is one them.

Impossibe. How on earth would anyone be able to solo 5 waves of mobs that knock you back every hit?

Sarcasm right?

If you're serious, then you just run away and pull them in groups of 1-3. More if you can handle it.

You can't pull everything. Some battles are in small rooms or areas.

I just soloed the Nightmare expedition dragon as a Mage.  It was...very easy.

The dragon you can kite, however I think soloing as a mage, the problem would be the assassins. They can teleport and instant-hit.

I want to see how one could solo the arishock, if you don't have the duel option. The room where it's not only him, but the entire room as well.
