I have the Black Emporium DLC and I noticed I could buy a book that allows me to reallocate my attributes and talents. I decided to use it somewhere down the line to try out a different play-style for my rogue. Odd thing is, every time she levels up, I'm automatically given the skill "Back-to-Back" without ever choosing it myself. Is this a free talent for all rogues, or did the reset glitch my talents? I end up resetting my talents every time I level up to get rid of it, and in doing so I feel like I'm being given an extra talent point without actually earning it.

Is there any way to fix this, or am I stuck with the extra points? I don't like cheating, especially on my first play-through!

Thanks for bumping.

Actually, this has gotten WORSE. I have no idea what's going on. Now I have like 20 ability points at level 10. Thing is, it doesn't actually let me spend the whole 20 points when I reset. I spend the 10 points that I get (or 11, I think, thanks to a book) normally and everything is fine until I level up. When I hit my next level, it automatically selects another ten abilities for me.

I don't use them, because I know I didn't choose them myself, but it's just annoying that I have them. And what if I actually decide to use them later? How would I even justify that? Because I would have points from leveling up, and since I already automatically have the skills I might want to use, I'd have to spent the level up point on something else...and then ignore it....or something. Gah, this is all so confusing.

Am I really the only one with this problem? I can't seem to find anything about it anywhere on the forums. Why is this unique to myself only?

Actually there is another HUGE bug with this, if you used tomes or potions to add stats and talents you will lose all those extra points and only get the basic level based points whenever you use those potions.

I have the same thing happening to me. I opened up Creation & Spirit healer early in my playthrough. I got to the Black Emporium and used a Maker's Seigh to respec. AFter doing so I saved and upon loading I had thoes 2 specializations open'd back up and spec'd with talent points I don't actually have. And the thing is, I am lvl 11 and have all the specialization trees open'd up and still have 2 SP to spend. I mean I definitly am looking the gift horse int he mouth on this one. It just doesn't make it fun to have it all opened.

Smaller bug, using the beta patch here, so not sure if it partially fixed your issues. I used the makers sigh, and one of my spells didnt reset. Crushing prison.

Oddly enough everything else in the tree went away.

Same here... not only the Maker's sight gives abilities you don't have anymore but it gives extra specialization and talents points too. (Lvl13, I have 6 spe points right now and about 30 talents points...)

I decided not to use the talents i don't "really" have but it seems there is another bug where all my damaging spells cannot be used anymore ("This spell is temporary disable" - in fact, forever disable) if I use a talent I don't really have (but have with the maker's sight bug).

This potion just isn't worth it xD

anyone know if it still happens with the beta patch? or anyway to reset points with the dev console or something?

This is happening because of the PC's old spec spells still in the tactics screen. When you switch to another member of your party and the game takes over Garrett, it still executes those spells even if you no longer have them and permanently adds them back to your repertoire. To avoid this I have cleared all my macros except "Target Enemy; Nearest > Attack" before using Maker's Sigh.

Ah, I knew other people must be experiencing similar problems concerning the Maker's Sigh.

It's pretty annoying. I don't want to get angry about it because I imagine coding something like this into a game is very difficult. If anything, I wish they didn't add the Maker's Sigh into the game in the first place.

Oh wow, really? Is that what it's doing? So if I were to clear all my tactics before I use the Maker's Sigh, it won't mess up?

assuming the problem is as simple as I have experienced it, yes. In fact so long as you clear your macros before you next enter combat you should be ok.

*edit* this bug does affect the NPC party members as well, should you decide to respec them also.

*edit 2* There is more to this than meets the eye.  I just hit level 20 and noticed that I have regained the Tempest spell in the primal tree.  Not had that spell in ages and its not in my "Customized" tactics list.  I did just equip a lightning based staff but I dont see how that could affect things.  It's interesting to note that I have no other spells in that tree, despite it requiring chain lightning as a prerequisite.  I guess I'm wrong about the cause?

*edit 3* Just hit level 21 and saw that I now have 3 surplus points spent in Blood Magic ven though I specc'd out of it at level 16.  No blood magic spells in my macros.

I am experiencing this as well. Not only does it give me spells that I've specced out of, it also gives me extra talent points to use after respeccing. This is very annoying as it makes me feel like I am cheating. Hope this will get fixed soon. The speed with which Bioware made the beta patch helps the hoping :).

I tried emptying my custom tactics, but it didn't help. Also, when I used the Maker's Sigh, I had 19 ability points to spend, and I'm only level 10. Haha. This is so ridiculous.

I have not installed the high resolution patch yet, but apparently it also contains bug fixes? Is this true? Has anyone installed this patch yet? I'm wondering it it might fix this issue. Probably not.

*Copy / Pasted from another "Respec Glitch" Topic*
I just saw this bug happening to me. I noticed I had the Rush talent on my Rogue, and I remembered using the respec potion to take that talent out and put that point into something better, but I just noticed it was back. Again I used a potion, took it out, saved, and went on my way. The I noticed it was back, again. The only way I figured I could fixed this was going back to the save I made after the second potion used, and using the console commands to remove the damn talent. Thankfully I caught on to this now, and I wasn't so far ahead on my game from those original respec save points I made, you know, just in case lol. I figured I only got 1 added abilitity point for free. This is one way to fix this, but is not by any means the best one. I shouldnt have to worry about a potion completly unbalancing my game. A least now we know to avoid this potion until this gets fix, hopefully soon.Image IPB

Yes, I don't know all the specifics but suffice to say I respec my two hand warrior and this time around decided I don't need whirlwind... After a little bit I inevitably have whirlwind back. I respec and it gives me the point for whirlwind that I didn't actually earn and... skill point pool grows.

How many abilities should the player character have ignoring the technique books? Is it one per level or does the character start with a few abilities at level 1?
