Problem siding with the templars

I played a male warrior on my 1st playthrough romancing Merrill and siding with the mages.
I started a female rogue was going to romance Fenris and side with templarsbut I am just having a hard time. First off Bethany is just too sweet. I hate chosing against her.
So how do you grow up with a sweet apostate mage sister and decide the templars are right? Looking for other viewpoints to sell it to myself. May try it with a mage and carver though not sure how that will go.

Not a glitch. Just they all seem such b...heads. I sided with the mages the 1st playthrough and that was disappointing. I wish it was possible to go through and not chose a side but then you wouldn't be champion.
By the time you get there, you already ARE champion. =/

I agree. I couldn't find a reason to side with Meredith when she seems completely irrational in wanting to kill all mages of the Circle and the city-state of Kirkwall because of the actions of one man who wasn't part of the Kirkwall Circle. I was an apostate Hawke with Carver and romanced Merrill as well, but I also couldn't go through slaughtering innocent men, women, and children because of the actions of one man who wasn't even a Circle mage.

Take Bethany with you and Anders on the Deep Roads Expedition and she will be taken away to become a Grey Warden then you dont have to worry about her when the time to side with the templars/mages comes.Esmerella wrote...

I was a Mage and sided with the Templars. Orsino helped the blood mage kill Mother, no WAY I could think well of him. Also, how he resulted to blood magic in the end, even in despiration was wrong. I don't totally agree with Meredith, such as the Rite of Annulment and making the Circle worse, but I showed that by sparing the two mages that begged for mercy. Both Orsino and Meredith died in the end, so I was happy. Without them, Kirkwall might have a better chance.
Orsino didn't help Quentin kill anyone. They had correspondence together involving magic, but even when Orsino is basically committing "suicide," he admits he saw Quentin's research as evil. Orsino was the one who had no problem trying to compromise in the end with Meredith, even saying he'd help her look through the Circle so he could prove they weren't housing blood mages, but Meredith wanted to murder innocent people regardless of the facts. Time and again I saw that Anders was right - there can't be peace between templars and mages when the latter is in subjugation to the former.

The mages in the Kirkwall Circle were hardly innocent. Did you not notice all the demons? Or miss the First Enchanter being a blood mage?
She did what she had to do. If she didn't invoke the Right of Annulment, the citizens would surely riot, as a result there would be even MORE deaths. Don't forget about the enemies of Kirkwall looking to invade at this opportune time, or even potential allies or neutral parties who want more power. With the Grand Cleric slain by a mage, anyone would have reason enough to invade if you didn't take action against all mages in Kirkwall. If she didn't try to keep order, Kirkwall would be doomed. As it stands now, the situation sucks but it could have been a lot worse.

The actions of some don't constitute all mages. You're making the same mistake as Meredith and the other templars who blame all mages for the actions of a few. Wanting to kill every man, woman, and child because of the actions of one person is completely irrational.

Nobody knows who did it. There's no reason anyone would even suspect the mages when they've recently repelled a Qunari invasion. Wanting to murder innocent people because it would be bad PR doesn't make her heroic or remotely sane.

The building was destroyed in an explosion, and the Qunari use explosives. I don't see why people would leap to the assumption that mages caused an explosion.

The qunari were long gone at this time, and the explosion that killed the High Cleric was magically induced as all citizens could witness, with the extremely huge magic blast that followed. I agree with the idea that Kirkwall is better off without both orsino and Meredith. Cullen is more than a little fanatical about killing mages also,(as we witnessed in the circle tower in ferelden), In my first playthrough i sided with the mages, but in my current one as a rogue I plan on going witht the Templars. I think the best situation would be a coexistance between the two, but thats not possible now.Its either power hungry mages or fanatical, narrowminded zealots. The real threat is on the horizon either the Qunari return or there will be an exalted march on the Free Marches. Tune in faithful reader...same bat time same bat channel, in DA3
