Download and installation seemed to work just fine (and I have reinstalled on a different volume which did not affect the problem). I can start the game and get the splash screen. When I choose "Play," it opens another application called Dragon Age II Activation. This application asks for my EA username and password. When I enter those and press "Sign In," it immediately return a message saying it can't connect to the internet and that I should try again later. If I choose "Create Account," it takes me to an error screen saying I am not connected to the internet and offering me "Retry" and "Exit" buttons. "Retry" does nothing and "Exit" quits the application. I AM connected to the internet, and I have turned off Little Snitch to make sure that all traffic is allowed. As far as I can tell, the Activation application isn't even trying to connect to the server, as it doesn't seem to send any outgoing messages. Any thoughts? Thanks,
Aden

I'm having the exact same problem.

Not sure what the error is (as you can access these boards). Perhaps the EA servers are down but it seems more like the game for some reason has decided that it's not online.
Perhaps disable/enable your internet connection could make it change it's mind?

I registered the game via the web page, still getting the same thing.

Same here. I've been trying to authorize the game for a day now: still stuck on "Please check your internet connection", which obviously works. Support has been very helpful but didn't manage to troubleshoot my issue; I repaired permissions, did a new install on a clean account, updated everything, resetted PRAM, SMC management etc. I'm waiting for an email from support. No antivirus, no firewalls, I tried with 3 different connections too. The funny thing is that I'm able to install, authorize and play properly on my Bootcamp partition, same computer (MacBook Pro). It's a bit of an annoyance to reboot every time I want to play, though...

Make sure you guys aren't running something like Little Snitch that might be blocking the outbound access. Since the game goes full screen, Little Snitch's dialogue box isn't visible, and if you don't answer it within a few seconds, it automatically denies the request.

No, no firewalls or such. Another thing: none of the built-in links in the "Dragon Age II Application", the one with the green EA logo, seem to work. With "Forgot password?", I get a "Not Found; The requested URL /redirect/access/forgotpassword was not found on this server" on my browser; with "Create account", I get a "Not Found; The requested URL /redirect/registration3 was not found on this server" directly in the application.

What's your internet connection like? I mean you use and airport or ethernet cable. For some reason the game things your offline. No idea what's causing this but let's take a look at your setup. If possible (i.e you're in a laptop) then perhaps take it somewhere else and see if you can register on another network.
Come to think of it. Perhaps the firewall on your network router is stopping the communication (for some reason). I have no idea what ports the program is trying to use.

First of all, thanks for the assistance
The problem is, I already tried three different connections with my laptop: wireless at my girlfriend's house with a Cisco wireless key (airport card is broken), ethernet at my office and ethernet at home, all with different routers. All of those work perfectly with my Bootcamp partition and I can play from there, but no success on Os X.

Argh,
Well then I have no idea. Do you mean your that the wireless in your laptop is broken? Is it disabled? Perhaps the game assumes because the wireless is not working that you have no internet (seems strange).
Try this:
Go into system preferences and network and make sure that your active connection is listed the highest. So if you use ethernet cable then drag it to the top and the same for any additional wireless card you might be using. Also if your wireless card is broken then consider delting it or at least frag it to the bottom.
The order of connections should only matter if you have more then one internet connection at once. Then OSX will take the first active connection it finds based on your list. I had issues with this because at work I want it to default to the ethernet cable and not wireless so I had to change it (if I remember correctly).
Grasping at straws but worth a try!

Tried that too, sadly... :/ I even made a new profile with only my wireless connection and another one only with ethernet, but no results whatsoever...

As far as I can tell, this stuff only applies to windows machines, am I wrong? If not maybe someone knows how to do this on a mac?

Does anyone from bioware actually read this crap? I contacted their support staff, I know those guys don't read anything I send.
How do we get a refund from a digital download, is that even possible?
Thanks!

Yeah, "very" helpful response from EA! Getting windows answer for a MAC issue jeeez!
I'm a little disappointed with Bioware's lack of response on these boards but these boards are not official support but a way for user's to get tips from other users. Still they posted ACT1/2/3 issues. I would hope the also had "installation/configuration" issues listed :-(

Solved! This is how I did it, using a solution from a Spore forum:
Open Terminal
Go to /etc directory (cd /etc)
Open the hosts file (sudo nano hosts)
Insert your admin password
Delete the line "127.0.0.1 proxy.novafusion.ea.com" (go down with the down arrow key until you're at that line, then start deleting it with backspace)
Ctrl+X, then Y to confirm, Enter, and you're set. At least, that worked for me...

Yes, that did the trick for me as well. Thank you so much for figuring this out. And it was a simple fix, too.

The authentication server was acting up for a few days. It kept asking me to re-authenticate. Then, as mysteriously as it appeared, the problem went away.
