I thought this fight was going fine (playing hard) but when the phase comes where he starts to roll around and do this super cleave attack i get demolished.

Problem is you need to focus 100% on evading him, theres no hope of getting a chanse to damage him when you allready have problems surviving. And even when pausing/unpausing and micromanaging like a madman he still kills me.

Another problem is that the pillars seem to be bugged, his cleave goes THROUGH pillars.
Second, the range of his cleave attack is huge, it feels like it reaches atleast half the zone.

The rolling itself isnt a problem, easy to dodge. But i really need help with dealing with his cleave :(

Party setup:

Varric, Melee rogue hawke (But switched to bow here), melee rogue isabella, Fenris 2H warrior. I have 7 potions and 5 stamina potions for this fight.

KITING COULD HAVE WORKED but i found out that after a rolling phase, a Lightning phase continues. And its impossible to kite him with 1 character as his lighnings seem to go through the pillars aswell.

EDIT: Also he uses this cleave attack after rolling in extremely fast succession, in addition to having ridicolously high damage resistance - making any attempt at zerging him. fail.

To make an example, the boss bugged into a pillar with only varric left once, making me think "Hey ill make it now muahaha" after 5 minutes of autoattacking the boss "phased" though starting to teleport again. The hp pool of the bosses in DA:2 (Atleast on hard + ) is pretty extreme.

Is cleave the thing it does when it walks around swinging its arms around like a flail? And if it get close  enough it swings at you? The pillars are only there to protect you from that red explosion energy shower attack. I split everyone out to the four corners of the room and used whoever it is aggroed kite it around while the other stayed out of it's way and attacked it from behind. It's range is hardly half the room, but if it does swing at you that means you are too close. To put things in perspective, it hardly ever launched a physical attack on me.

I had Archer, Varric, Anders and Merril.

When it was doing its more aggressive melee stuff I'd usually run it into a corner with Aveline and have her use Stonewall so she was immune to damage briefly. It was usually long enough to soak the big attacks and it would go back to using its standard attacks. It would get stuck on her and spin in place when it tried rolling, too.

I found the rolling phase easier to beat when i made not all the party try to dodge it, but rather made the guy in heavy armour (Carver) rush and intercept it as soon as possible and then keep getting in the wraith's face while the rest of the team would focus on adding damage from distance.

The melee person will take /some/ damage this way but it's not an amount that cannot be handled. It's preferable to everyone kiting since the wraith seems to pick targets at random, and squishies get damaged much more if they get hit instead.

I used  Improved Stonewall  (defender tree) on a fighter char at difficulty HARD. While i used it, i took very little damage. Problem is ... its only 5 secs long, but its stil very useful for buying some extra time for  ranged fighters and chances are,  that the rock wrath changes  his battle form anyway after those 5 seconds.
Improved Stonewall also stopps the the ball form btw.  ... if the skill is timed correctly.
