Am I the only one who isn't completely disappointed with the story?

I was so moved by the ending, that my head is still wheeling. I played a mage, stumbled into an Anders romance, thought they were too happy, and then he confused me by psuedo breaking up with me, and Justice was STILL there after his little quest ... The ending. It took me by surprise. Everything suddenly made sense, and I suddenly realized what kind of radical I was attached to. It broke my heart. And that's ... amazing.

This is a video game! When's the last time you felt so angry or disgusted by the STORY? And not just "oh, this is bull****, whatever" and flip it off? When's the last time a video game made you cry? Not that I did but, I was rightly shaken, especially with Sebastian's reaction in the mix. It was so out of left field, and I love it.

Not only that, not only did it have the impact of a great book or movie, but it was completely dependent on ME. Everything I did mattered -- these were MY choices that were making me glaze over.

Am I getting too artsy fartsy right now? I meant to just say I liked the ending. I really, really like what you guys did, Bioware. You could have easily done another predictable fantasy ending, but you didn't. Not everyone loves a classic when it first comes out, so give it some time and you'll really see what people think.

You are not the only one, though I hope that future expansions/DLC's continue Hawke's story with his/her love interest in some shape or form. It left me wanting more.

I agree!! I sincerely hope Bioware doesn't take one look at Metacritic and nixes any DLC they had planned. Please. The characters need some justice. The romances ... ugh, yes, they do, too! I never wanted DLC for a game as much as this one.

Agreed. Not specifically the romance, but that wanting kills me. Want more character development and companion interaction. Image IPB

The story was gripping, both the ending and when your mother is turned into a frankenstein-esque creature.
It made my eyes water, seriously...

Yes, yes, and yes. I agree with you completely. Granted, there are valid points people have made and I wish there had maybe been a little more chance for interaction with party members, but the ending was...well, epic. Not to be cliche. Even as a non-mage character who ended up with Anders and sympathized with the mages, it's a pretty big impact. It was emotionally messy, morally complex, and all too complicated...Maker forbid you have something other than a nice, clean conclusion all wrapped up in a pretty package at the end. ;)
Bravo, Bioware writers.

The criticism with party interaction is a pretty valid point though. You never really had the opportunity to speak with your party members outside of their homes, and even then they only talked to you after doing certain quests and after each act. I don't mind not speaking to them during combat or walking through the streets of Hightown and such, but at least allow us to interact more at their designated homes.

no complaints about that, op,

just that it was not an ending for me

just 6 years and barely a month of the
story told, wich leaves around 4 years
just  to Varrick's barebone tale.

if there must be / has to be an xp, I'd only go for
one wich is fully integrated into the oc
and continues the tale right after Leliana's
convo with Cassandra.
Not with another desaster like Awakening.

I agree with you on all your points. I finished the game early this morning (12am) before coming to work hehe. My only small complaint is the reuse of areas. Other than that the story is amazing and I already have in my head like 5 different playthroughs I want to try in the following weeks. Bioware thank you. Someone finally realised mages can use staves in other ways than just holding them in your hands for stats :) Thank you for that!

Champion of Kirkwall +  Hero of Ferelden = Dragon Age 3 or massive Dragon Age 2 DLC.

If you got the ending I got you will know why I think this. Leliana mentions that Hawke disappeared "Just like the Warden." I also still cant believe Anders is a physcopath who blew up the Chantry. I lost Sebastian sparing that bastard. It better have been the right thing to do.

I'll admit I got a little tearied eyed after what happened to Leandra. I agree with the OP, all people want to focus on is the techinical changes they made and gripe about that. Their too busy doing that to see how fantastic the story and characters in DA2 are. The endings not just to the game but to all the chapters were great, plus they hinted at Leliana possibly playing a large role in the future which has me gitty.

Well, they definitely did pull a ME2, alluding to the next game in the series, which I didn't really like BUT I know that it's not going to be 5 years until the next installment, and DLC has the potential to be very full, since Awakenings was very substantial. And they also do character DLC, as proven by the first game, too.

Did anyone else in their ending hear Varric say, "We had to leave The Champion's side eventually, except Isabela."
I was friends with Isabela but wasn't involved with her (Probably the only person in Thedas who hadn't been.)
Thoughts?

Mine said "except Anders". Really not sure why you got her even though you didn't romance her? What did her final convo with you entail? (I wouldn't know she ran way and never came back in the 2nd act for me.)

I enjoyed the ending...left me wanting more. So, I went back to a save before I decided to do the final main plot quest....I have a few more things I need to do. >_>

I really hope there's more DLC's to really conclude the ending...that, or a really nice Expansion Pack. :)

For me it was Fenris. Romanced him though. You must've set some flag.

I know exactly how you feel. The story answered a lot of my questions. In the end I got up to where orsino and merideth were arguing and then I saw the chantry go boom and I scream with joy (not kidding and sort of akward when your in a dorm). Ive always been an Anders fan and when I saw that beautiful sight my mage dropped to his knees and cried with joy. Kind of like sebastian but I was happy...he was pissed. Even better Carver gave the templar commander the big FU and helped me out....I LOVED IT!!

****ING AWESOME ENDING BW!! Anders and I better be on the run from...uhh everyone in DA3 Image IPB

I enjoyed the ending very much. It made me super pumped for whatever is going to happen in a (maybe) expansion, and sequel.

yeah, i absolutely loved the ending. i was a mage so me and anders were friends who were all pro-mage rights and when he set off that magic nuke that i apparently helped him plant and build, i was just shocked, i just sat there staring a the screen for awhile it was amazing.

the whole shades fo grey thing throughout the entire story was great, everyone had good points, everyone was alittle to extremist in their goals. i liked how they didn't make one side the "good" side and the other the evil side. i went into the game thinking all pro-mage and i kept that ideal through the game, but damn did they make it hard to keep that up.

i think the "Except Blank" during the prologue means that said character died

also i agree with the OP i was really mad and hurt by what anders did

I agree. This was everything I hoped for. I entered a romance with Anders on my mage on my first playthrough and was honestly shocked by everything in the story even though I read a few spoilers. The story was very emotional at certain parts and things like Hawke's mother getting killed shocked me a lot. The ending itself made me think about a possible expansion(s) and DLC for the game. Also can't wait for a sequal especially if it has Hawke and the Warden teaming up. I don't see why so many people complain about it. The game is great even if it is a little different from Origins. I honestly loved this game a lot. Currently working on my second and soon thrid playthough :)

So the only way a companion would stay with Hawke is if they died. D'oh! Image IPB
