Actually Grace and Alain were captured shortly after you freed them and are in the Gallows during Act 2. When you bump into her, she's actually very hostile and bitter towards you.

I think Grace b*tched that "you sent us off with a 2 minute head start, no food or supplies, I hate you and want you to go away" or something to that degree.

Essentially. Grace was recaptured, even if you did your best to try and help her escape, and regardless of the truth of the situation - she blames you. Over the years, this blame has turned into outright hatred, and by the time Act Three rolls around, she sees you as a symbol of everything that is wrong with the world insofar as mages are concerned.

So the reason she has someone close to you kidnapped isn't because she wanted to gain the support of you as she told Thrask, but rather she wants to more or less lure you there and murder you.

I love the story of DA2.  Frankly I don’t understand all the complaints floating around.  The game was well executed.. The only thing I would like to have  seen are choices which impact your surroundings as the acts progress.

Am I the only one who isn't completely disappointed with the story?

I was so moved by the ending, that my head is still wheeling. I played a mage, stumbled into an Anders romance, thought they were too happy, and then he confused me by psuedo breaking up with me, and Justice was STILL there after his little quest ... The ending. It took me by surprise. Everything suddenly made sense, and I suddenly realized what kind of radical I was attached to. It broke my heart. And that's ... amazing.

This is a video game! When's the last time you felt so angry or disgusted by the STORY? And not just "oh, this is bull****, whatever" and flip it off? When's the last time a video game made you cry? Not that I did but, I was rightly shaken, especially with Sebastian's reaction in the mix. It was so out of left field, and I love it.

Not only that, not only did it have the impact of a great book or movie, but it was completely dependent on ME. Everything I did mattered -- these were MY choices that were making me glaze over.

Am I getting too artsy fartsy right now? I meant to just say I liked the ending. I really, really like what you guys did, Bioware. You could have easily done another predictable fantasy ending, but you didn't. Not everyone loves a classic when it first comes out, so give it some time and you'll really see what people think.

Your one of the few.
I was quite disappointed.
Felt like they focused a lot on little things.
Then quickly made the main plot.

The only thing I didn't enjoy about it was the comment about how "The Warden is missing as well. That can't be coincidence". Uhm... no, because my Warden died.

Yeah, there's a lot of retconning. Still, the people who said it are obviously conspiracy theorists, who will link any death or disappearance together to further their agenda, and kidnap people like Varric. So it's quite possible they are considering your Warden's death similar to the Champion's disappearance (considering Varric had to outright say that he would be surprised if Hawke was dead to convince Cassandra to leave him alone). Or maybe your Warden's gravestone went missing. :P Dun, dun, DUN.

@SkyyPlum: At least you gave the game a chance. So many are hating on it without even truly playing it. It's okay to like both games. DA:O will forever be the "better" one for a couple of reasons: A) you had complete customization of the main character, including race and caste, B) it was the first; it introduced the world and the game mechanics, C) it's been out longer so we had more time to get familiar with the characters and story, and we've bonded -- as an RPG community -- over those characters and story. Time can cure point C, but only if we let it. I, for one, am totally ready to start laughing about DA2 with you guys. (... too bad it's so sad! lol)

I just hope Leliana isn't correct, because I think it would be kind of lame to have both Hawke and his LI along with the Warden gone for the exact same reason.

I mean in my head Hawke is out in the woods dodging Templars waiting for Dragon Age 3.

Have to agree with the original poster...I loved the story...and even though I did have a small indication as to what was going to happen because I viewed a couple of posts about Anders I was still blown away by the ending...there were still some surprises and it made me excited a lot like ME did.

I ... was blind, I suppose? I was romancing the bugger, and when he smiles at you, it's just like a memory wipe, I swear. Though, if I were truly living with the guy, I would pick up on his "preparing to die" ritual, but since I'm just a player, I didn't. Now, if I had played an anti-mage char (so far, that's been hard to do on my 2nd playthrough) first, romanced the guy who totally hates mages, I would have probably been more "WTF aw I knew it, you rat bastard" instead of just awe-struck betrayal. Still, I had no idea where Anders' radicalism was leading him. I didn't know if Justice would just consume him and he would go on a massacre, or if he would just get himself killed to prove a point. Varric telling me to be careful, because he's selfish, was my biggest clue ... but I ignored it!

I think part of what made that such a surprise is that I didn't realize I had stumbled into the ending "point of no return" quest. I thought it was just another confrontation, there was no prelude to Anders working up to his speech, and then something really major happened. Being caught off guard like that, like everyone else in the game, was a welcome surprise to this story.

The story was gripping, both the ending and when your mother is turned into a frankenstein-esque creature.
It made my eyes water, seriously...

I must've done something different with my first play through.  My mother gets killed by a blood mage at around the half way point give or take.  So even in my second play through if I change things up a bit she still winds up dead?  Sad but it adds an additional element of tragedy to the game which is cool.  I actually like how the game ended on a not so happy note instead of the usual "..and they lived happily ever after..."

Bring it on Templars!!!!!

GODDAMNIT ANDERS! That's all that went through my mind during the final battles. With every new wave of enemies, with Orsino resorting to blood magic, with Fenris showing up to fight me, with every statue coming to life and for a few hours after the game ended. Goddamnit, Anders!
I romanced him on the friendship path and it was a beautifully written romance so I let him live. That's what makes the ending so poignant. I completely understood his point but would never resort to his methods. Brilliant work, writers. In DAO, I had that sucker-punch moment when Alistair dumped me for not being noble, and now this. Goddamnit, Bioware! :)
Overall, I also thought the themes were incredibly original, complex and relevant to our times: oppression, moral superiority, terrorism... Quite daring.

I personally loved the ending of the game. I guess some people have a problem seeing the main antagonist of the story because they didn't take high school English and don't understand there are many different kinds of main conflict that happen in a story and there doesn't have to be a big menacing evil dude for their to be a climax and a resolution.

I enjoyed the Man Vs. Society conflict that was a constant throughout the story, my rogue was in a constant battle between the two equally drastic views between saving the people from a group of people who could easily succumb to temptation and the Templars' unjust oppression of a people by blaming everyone in the group for the actions of a few.

Add that with a little bit misunderstanding and xenophobic ideals towards the Qunari led to a gripping story. And my Hawke went against all odds to defend those who were oppressed because of the influence his late sister and Merrill had on him.

The game was good, a few bugs, but not as bad as a lot of people are complaining about. And I was one of the worst dissenters when I heard the changes to the game from Origins.

OK, what made the ending to Mass Effect II so epic was the fact we know 3 will be a direct sequel and were bringing Shepard back to save Earth. At the end of DA II I have no idea where Bioware is going with the series. Like I've said, I liked what happened at the end just didn't think it should have been the end. I really hope dlc can answer where they want to go but I'd be shocked since after playing Witch Hunt I thought some of that would come into play in DA II but got nothing. Time to play the waiting game now. At least Torchlight came to xbla last week and full house poker this week so I'm not too mad :)

Then she kidnapped my sister from Warden and later i kill her. Personally, this is the situation what i want  and it make me easy to clean my enemy. B)

But the Orleasian Warden didn't.  It doesn't matter if you didn't play Awakenings, those events still happened and were still spearheaded by a legendary Warden.

Just not yours.

It's not a retcon if there's a whole expansion pack dedicated to how it happened.

My Champion finished a romance with Merrill, but the ending said everyone left him but Isabella...weird. I sided with the templars but my character ended up being a rallying cry for the mages and respected by the templars. Killed the First Enchanter dude and Meredith. I told Anders to just go away...but he came back and wanted to fight me, though he called me his friend. He died just the same. I choose to walk the middle line through most of the game between the mages and templars and exercised mercy when applicable. Loved the game. Good stuff. Bring on the DLC!

On my 2nd playthrough, I'm seeing all kinds of new stuff in Varric's narration. Like when Cassandra mentions the warden companion, he guffaws and says "Don't remind me, I introduced them." I squee'd a little inside.

Varric often exaggerates his stories but in this he mastered the understatement..

When you get hit by what was essentially a Death Star laser and total war erupts.... I'd call that a bit more than, "fallen to pieces".

Two best scenes of the game:
(a) When Merrill cries over the dead elf eaten by the strider--great work by the voice actress to channel pain and grief. First second you see one of those die you say, "meh, that's what happens to movie extras." But, 5+ seconds in to her grief you say, "wow, that elf meant something to her; that elf mattered."

(B) When Mother died; I never, for a second, expected anything less than to be the hero coming in just in time to save the day. When that character stood up... I... wow... I was blown away. "I was too late? How? How did this happen? Is this for real?" I went back to an old save to see if maybe it was something I did--some poor choice along the way but... nothing. Taking away the only "solid rock" the character could count on had a big impact on the game feel afterwards.

The ending for me was not as emotional as yours since he was not a love interest but I did feel the same level of disgust that I had for Isabela now apply to Anders. Those two destroyed Kirkwall--and maybe more.

One of the main reasons I like the ending is that a lot of the smaller stuff can change drastically depending on loyalty levels and how you handled various evens through the game. I'm going to be playing through this game quite a few times trying many different party compositions and loyalty levels with various companions.

She didn't say the Warden was missing. She said the Warden was gone.

Not gone in the same way, perhaps, but similarly beyond their reach.

Oh thank God, I thought I was the only one who absolutely loved this game. Posted my praise on the DA2 FaceBook page, and I was hounded. <_< This is the only game that has made me laugh, cry, and really feel for the characters (not excluding DA:O.) I like that I was put on the spot with your choices (even if I abhorred it at the time, pausing the game and pacing like a mad hermit.)

don't remind me of the Idol, I was so happy when I was able to acquire Orsino's cool mage staff. So I was hoping to get Meridith's Two handed sword for my Hawke only to find out it was crafted out of the idol and shattered in the end. I am wondering about if we'll see our warden since Alistair is told by Teagan the Hero of Ferelden should be back in Denerim by now. This is during Act 3 which is 7 years after the blight began.
I believe we have been told that the events of Origns takes place over 2 years, Is that including Awakening and all the DLC up to the end of Witch Hunt? Even if we give it another 2 years for the Events of the DLC to take place, That's still 3 years. It seems that the Warden came back since in my import,he went into the mirror and I still get that during the cameo with Alistair.
This along with the Comments by Leiana at the end make me wonder what is going on with the warden and if the champion will end up meeting them.
Was surprised to find out that they have established a name for the Dalish Warden, since It wasn't the name I had given him.

lol. When I found out Meridith made her sword out of the idol, I thought: "OMG NOBODY TOUCH IT." Anders said the idol was definitely magic, but not the good kind. I knew that would come around and bite me in the arse...

I want to say the disappearance of the Warden and Champion have to do with Flemeth. I always watch out for the seemingly crazy old women, because a) they know what the heck is going on, and B) THEY DID IT. But why Flemeth would go out of her way for these things is questionable. If she's not an abomination, or mage...then wtf is she?! A god? That could explain her vast knowledge. Or...*gasp* MAYBE she's a daughter of a Ritual, like the one Morrigan performed? Part god, part human?

Excuse me as I go write this down and creat my own theory tree.
