The ending definitely left a lasting impression, perhaps because it was so sad, i don't really know but once those credits started rolling it certainly wasn't joy i was feeling... (my) Poor Hawke was just trying to do the right thing and everything went to hell! not to mention that pretty much everything seemed to be Hawkes' fault, i even thought mothers death was Hawkes' fault because i killed the blood mage, oh and the dead dalish elves because i had helped merrill when clearly it was the wrong thing to do.

Loading the endgame save after that felt so melancholy D|

This. The credits along with Florence And the Machine left me feeling pretty bad as well. There was... a bitter sweet victory in it.

Oh man. That Florence and the Machine song hit me RIGHT in my heart. Since I romanced Anders, it was particularly relevant. So I was like ... whyyy whyyyy throughout the credits sequence. That kind of reaction sticks with you.

Granted, that song was only relevant to some character endings, not all. But still. For the ones that it did affect, it was worth it.

The ending filled me with anger and contempt... and that's why I LOVED it. I was totally blown away by what happened.

I love games that provoke powerful emotions.
I'm hoping for an expansion to this story. They need to find the Champion...

I hope they take what they learned from Origins DLC and ME 2 and continue the story with the proper companions, about them. Or continue the story from where it left off. This cliffhanger is killing me, so putting in some crappy filler DLC which happened "before the ending but can be replayed now" would be unimaginably annoying

It only makes sense, but the way they handled Awakening worries me a bit. We have a new cast of characters that we each grew attached with and it all goes down to chaos in the end, each of them going their seperate ways. As long as they can have sensible closure for Hawke's story, I would be happy. The ending of DA2 was thought-provoking, but it was a cliffhanger nontheless.

I loved the story and the ending too. My spidey sense has always told me that war was on the horizon between the mages and the Chantry ever since DA:O! Of particular interest at the end was the fact that the Warden AND the Champion vanished. There's something bigger going on than just the Blight or the mage rebellion. I'm still trying to figure out what Cassandra and Leliana's Plan B is and what their goals are now. I also wonder who those "allies" that Nathaniel mentioned were.

Sorry to be scattershot, but I stayed up until 4AM (I think) to finish the game. I found that there were some surprisingly emotional moments throughout the story, such as Leandra's death. My heart sank when I saw that that insane bastard necromantic serial killer had her, but the Anders romance in particular was sheer torture. I felt betrayed and angry, but my Hawkette still loved him. Ugh, I just knew it was coming too after the potion quest. The salt peter reference with the sela petra made me think "uh-oh...BOMB!!!" Later, when the Chantry was destroyed, It was heartbreaking, especially after I saw Sebastian's reaction (I felt badly for him). I'd always thought Elthina was a genuinely nice person. She knew mama Hawke & the Amells...it was just a horrible experience. Still, as a mage, I couldn't stand what Meredith's oppressive rule and my Hawkette still loved Anders, so she couldn't off him even for doing something so horrible. I do sort of dread future events because Sebastian vowed to come back with an army, and he clearly wants Anders' head on a plate at this point (whether or not he finds Hawkette and Anders again is another matter though). I would really like to see an expansion.

I think the best way I can describe the emotional impact of the ending (from the Chantry explosion on) was similar to when my Warden got dumped by Alistair for being an elven mage and his later admission that he'd been a fool and sacrificed himself to save her. It was hearbreaking and painful but quite brilliant in terms of the story and characters.

Speaking of old characters, it was pretty awesome to see Leliana (in her new role), along with Zevran and Alistair. I got to see King Alistair, and the snarky banter was priceless (including his mentioning the old ball & chain, aka my Warden <3 - this was my rogue Cousalnd import I believe). Even the little touches like that note written by Avernus was intriguing. I think there's a lot of foreshadowing about future events if you're paying attention to things.

I'm another who loved the ending. Anyone else get chills when Cassandra and Leliana were saying at the end about "The Warden and The Champion disappeared at the same time, no way thats coincidence" or something along that line. Gives me some hope of the Warden coming back!(Albeit small)

Act 1 was terrible and boring. Act 2 and 3 was very well done. My only problem with the ending is the lack of a coronation like event like in DAO(why no Viscount ceremony) and no epilogue. Other then that I loved the ending.

I agree. Must be the slowest start to a game ever. Thank god it picked up later.

I like the ending just fine, but I hope they bring some Expansion/DA3 for it. It was kind of left open. I do hope we get to play as Hawke in the next part too. The game just didn't have enough closure. Even ME2 felt more complete at the end.

what really set me off was how Leliana was implying that the warden and Hawke were somehow connected in their disappearances. Why do you do this to me Bioware? WHY?!?!

What amazes me the most is how the closing cut scene made me rethink everything I thought I knew for over two years now. Liliana, whom I thought was the most inspiring companion I'd met in an rpg (except Tali....no one can touch tali).

Her blind faith in what she knew was right was touching and it extended through her entire personality making her glowing source of warmth and positive energy that draws many players (mysel included ) in.

As a freedom-or-die mage supporter, reeling from the scorn I feel for the Chantry and their brownshirts, I am overcome with the realization that she may be nothing more than a cute an perky religious zealot, and that I may have to kill her in 3.

Say what you will about the single cave design that you visit 45 times, and the needless extermination of some of our favorite specs, this game has depth......in spades.

This is a matured offering. In many ways they have utterly mastered an aspect of gaming that is not easily described in review publications.

I think that many people just don't have the patience to wait for the story to unfold in the way the storytellers want it to. Everyone has their part to play, and obviously, the Warden is involved in major events once again based on the ending (whether or not we see him/her in person again is another matter).

See, I  thought that this ending was superb exactly because it allowed more logically for a more closely-tied expansion.  there is a war on (not over or even close).    Whicever side you support, your arch-nemises are still alive and kicking.  There are amazingly-powerful people marching batallions across the continent in seach of you, and no real indication of what they plan to do once they find you.

This has Direct-continuation-expansion written all over it imo.

Quoted (again) for truth.

Also, about the lack of epilogue/coronation scene? I'm glad it was left out. This way the developers are free to write a solid story without having to create a weak one that accomodates all the different choices that were made prior. It's one of the reasons why Awakening disappointed many and our favourite DAO companions barely had a cameo due to the branching paths with them.

^ Good point. Because of the sheer amount of possibilities, like DEATH, it makes it harder to see those characters again. More branches = weaker story.

I just beat it today. Having played it from a roleplay perspective as a mage that was in love with Anders, all I can say is "Holy crap Bioware". I've cried over videogames before, but talk about an emotional sucker-punch to the face.

It definitely was epic, and shocking. Part of it just feels unfair, having Hawke try so hard to hold everything together and have it all fall apart at the end. So yeah, amazing ending. I loved it for the epic tragedy it was.
