I just finished the Bone Pit 'cave' area and fought my first dragon in
this game. Unfortunately it was little different from any other fight,
I just had to quaf a few potions (on hard difficulty) and I used one
combo move (stagger). In DA:O every dragon was a challenge and you had
to build youself up to face them. I mean remember the fight with
Flemeth? It took me a while to prepare for that. I had to get some fire
resistance going and it took a lot of tactical gameplay to finally bring
her down. The fight felt like it lasted an hour and I was so buzzed by
defeating her I was still on a high from it two days later as I told my
friends that I had beat her and they asked for tips.

I'm not
bashing the game so much. I am enjoying it, but I would have thought a
dragon fight would be something special, even in this game where the
combat is so very quick and requires no real forthought, it works for
the game and can be fun. But the dragon was just so 'blah'. I hope any
I fight farther into the game take more time, skill and tactics.

Well to be fair in DA:O You fight HIGH dragons I could agree that what I fought on bone bit was just your normal dragon.

Yes, I know what you mean, but there's more dragons to fight. Remember that one dragon in the cave in Dalish forest (if I remember correctly)? If not, that's basically what you just fought.

BUT there is at least one more big dragon to fight, and it's a doozy! It's the High Dragon, and it's way more complicated. Took me a while to beat.

well almost all the dragons in origins where high dragons you fought one that just became a man so to speak, later on you'll fight a dragon that will meet your expectations :)

I've fought two dragons so far - and neither of them were High Dragons.

They were both boring though - if this game is going to be action oriented, give me fighting like God of War where my characters are actually interacting with the monster.

Thats true it wasn't a high dragon. Glad to hear there is one in DA2. I thought the Flemeth fight (and to a lesser extent the dragon at the end of the game) was one of the best cRPG fights I'd ever experienced. :)

High Dragon > Mature Dragon. I truly felt unstoppable after killing a High Dragon. Its a pretty fierce battle.

/sigh... takes me back and makes me actually want to get a PS3...  Sorry, off topic...

I'm still at the dragon in the deep roads, but hoping they keep the awesome take down animation =]

The second dragon spanked me... mostly because I listened to mom and left Bethany at home and then forgot to upgrade Varric before we left. It's my fault for not taking Anders.

There are some really great boss battle in the game. And there seems to be a "Kangaxx" boss in the game too, but you have to find scrolls to get to him and I only found one.

Oh, just wait till you get to the high dragon. That thing is tough. At least it was for me because I didn't have something like a DW that can have massive single enemy dps. My party consisted of AoE's on hard which wasn't hard till then, lol. I'm attempting to do a DW right now to see if I can get it going right, so far it's lame though and the camera angles/targeting enemies is still a big problem. Shame too, they were my fav in DAO/A.

The dragon in the Bone Pit was fun...It took 45 health potions and mana potions, and just me and Sebastion, and my dog because the others were dead.

The High Dragon was a lot of fun, and having Anders for that fight is a must. The funny thing was that after beating the High Dragon I almost got spanked by the Monstrous Spider in Anders' "Justice" quest :P

The little dragons you run in to the game seem more like the Drakes you run in to in the caves during the Urn quest in Origins- or even the one in Orzamaar. Can be a definite surprise to run in to one, but you'll get it killed pretty quick.

DAII's High Dragon is similar to the Flemeth/Andrastae High Dragon's in Origins, so no worries there. It's a tough, fun battle. I had to turn my difficulty, down, though... running in to it with three mages and Varric was, er, not what I expected. Barkwall may have saved the day.

The Mature Dragon you fight is just a little miniboss before you return later to face the high dragon. And oh man, bringing 3 mages and a tank for that fight... not the best idea I ever had.

I just miss the death animations ... watching a cut-scene depicting a skillset that my character does not possess (looked like blood magic) just made that fight totally forgettable.

Mature dragon = the one you fought with the elves catacombs in DA:O. It was never that strong.

Don't worry, the High Dragon comes later. Bwahahaha! You have to keep in mind how low level people fighting that first one are, they don't want to kill everyone.

There was a death animation per se for killing the High Dragon. I thought for a moment that my mage Hawke would do that demon hands thingie and got all excited, but what he did was still pretty awesome.

Nah. You are mistaking normal dragons with high dragons.

he high dragon fight is more like the archdemon fight - the army rather then the flemeth/high dragon fight from DAO. The jumping around and adds that come while it blasts from a perch was right out of the archdemon fight

No Balistae, tho. The Champion of Kirkwall fights his dragons like a man.

Just finished my first playthrough. Something tells me come DA3, the only memory of this game I'll have will probably be the final fight in the courtyard, mostly because the game decided to finally grace me with some unique looking enemies.

The tendency to make **** more epic with each installment in Bioware didn't work too well this time around. 2 of the 3 dragons in DA:O were powerful on their own merits and a blast to fight. In this game, the only real challenge was surviving the wave after wave of sub-dragons that were sent in. It weakens them by implying that they're too weak to be a threat on their own merit.

I understand that this is framed as a story being embellished by Varric, but every single fight just felt cheap.

Also, did the Hurlocs remind anyone else of Putties from the Power Rangers? I kept expecting them to start making that gobble gobble sounds halfway through the prologue.
