That said, I hated having to watch her talk after her zombification. It was traumatizing. I found myself wishing she would just hurry up and die.

As one conversation option puts it, that really had nothing to do with magic. He was a madman, and would have done something just as twisted, even if he didn't have magic to help him.

As much as I was pro mage in DA:O I'm starting to slide toward Templars even if they are far more nuts this time.
A mad man with a blade could of done the same yes.. made a corpse of his beloved out of so many others.. But only a Mage could have put that person threw the hell of living like that..

The plot twists were amazing. I've cried out before while playing. Just stunned at things that happen that I never could have expected.

That has nothing to do with his choice to do it. Every templar holds the option to abuse mages, but not every templar does it. This is like banning magic because necromancy is possible.

I think there was a lot of moral ambiguity in DA2, but I couldn't condemn all mages because one of them - Quentin - was a madman. It was sad to see Leandra put through that, but I doubt Leandra would condemn her apostate son, daughter, or husband because of Quentin's actions. Magic ran in her family, after all. As bad as people like Quentin could be, we also saw mages who wanted nothing more than to experience life outside of the confines of the Circle and dedicated her time to healing the sick and the poor. We also saw the dark side of the templars, we heard how some mages are routinely abused and raped, and how some were made tranquil for no good reason at all. Seeing Anders' friend beg him to kill him because he didn't want to live as a tranquil as horrible, and I can see why Anders would want to free his people from this system. It's why I sided with the mages.
