IMPORTANT: Sustained abilities turning off on zone-in

I don't care if it's supposed to be this way or not, but ALL Sustained abilities automatically turn off when zoning to a new area. This is horrible. Firstly, it adds a lot of annoying upkeep for characters designed to keep certain abilities active by default, like bloodmages and tanks. But even more importantly, it's leading to less fun and the promotion of weaker strategies and more boring, repetitive gameplay. 
I've yet to travel to the deep roads and already on numerous occasions I have entered a new zone to encoutner a cutscene and a more-difficult-than-usual fight. The mages take hits as the turn on their sustained spells and nearly die - sometimes do die. The tanks have to choose between drawing aggro without survivability sustained effects up or to put those up and not draw aggro away from the mages. The rogue is the only one free for combat right away and usually just gets killed while I'm setting up the rest of my group tactics. 
On these sort of surprise encounters I usually have to tpk at least once as I figure out when, during the flow of the fight, I can actually get all of my sustained abilities up and utilize the strategies I planned for when leveling the party members. This leads ot a situation where if you're interested in that sort of high elvel play you ahve to suffer through defeats becase the sustained abilities annoyingly turn off by themselves. 

Since they lock out a chunk of stamina/mana there doens't seem to be a balance issue for keeping them turned-on while zoning around. Since you can easily turn them off by hand at any time, there doens't seem to be a need for them turning off by themselves. I just don't understand the reasoning here.

I would very much like for the aptch to fix it so that sustained abilities remain on until turned off manually. That small change would make the game play far better for me and would make me want to stick around the DLC and expansions this time.

I've only had this occur for the Mabari warhound. Other sustained abilities I have still are active.

Mine definitely turn off every time.
