It seems like Aveline is constantly lecturing me, but she is still a useful party member, so I wanted to give her a gift.

I gave her a shield that I found on a quest and she immediately became upset and ranted about how I sold Wesley's shield to help pay for the expedition.

Only, I DIDN'T sell his shield.  I still have it (and all of my companions' original character-specific weaponry) in the chest at Hawke's estate.  There was no option to tell her that or give her that one instead.  This character is really starting to frustrate me.

Is there anyway to give her Wesley's shield as a gift?  Anyone know?  I doubt the devs figured that anyone would be so sentimental and keep everyone's original weaponry in their estate's storage chest...

Did anyone fare better by giving her this gift?

BTW, you'll find the gift in a crate where you fight the renegade templar and his fanatical followers.... not that it turns out to be much of a gift after all (I don't think she even accepted it, at the end).

I kept his shield, too! They totally should have recognized that.
Fenris also got mad when I tried to give him his gift. Funny. xD

I did the same thing. I was sort of hoping for a "Sold it? I have it right here." option. It was literally in my inventory while she complained about it.

If you equip it on her before you initiate this quest, (Spoilers),



- she's still just as a pissy. It's just flavor, it won't really improve her mood. But I kept all my companion's flavor items too, and reloaded just to see if she'd be happier with it equipped. It's not that big a difference.

First time I gave it to her, got lectured up the wall and ended up with (Aveline: Rivalry (+15)). Tried again and walked away with (Aveline: Friendship (+15)). This is how I got that:

*gifts sword to Aveline in the Keep; chose bolded options*

- Have I offended
- No gratitude?
- Why did you do that?

- You're over Wesley, aren't you?
- To be nice?
- No, you explain yourself.

[Left side of Conversation Wheel]
- Don't make it such a big deal.
- No respect for your namesake?

[Right side of Conversation Wheel]
- Then I'll take it back.
- I don't care, just use it.
- It's just a gift for a friend.

BOOM, (Aveline: Friendshiip (+15)). Don't know if you can get any higher than that. You might bve able to, don't know. Right now, I'm just happy not to walk away with her in the Red Zone. I've already got Fenris and Merrill loathing my mage fem!Hawke's guts, so there's no need to add another, especially a companion I quite like.
