Just uncheck every box... they will still fight people based on threat I think, but they will not use any powers or abilities. You can still put them on hold as well, so they only move when you tell them to.

Exactly as StingingVelvet says, I have played about 25% of the game (~23 hrs) with all the tactics turned off, and it's lots of fun, especially on Hard/Nightmare mode.

Much more challenging and as you keep pausing and issue orders for every character in the party, you really have to think more tactically than in DA:O, because you cannot simply spam healing potions to get through tough battles.

Maybe that is why hard mode is such a pain for me sometimes, because I manage my entire party at all times.

Tnx, I tryed to uncheck all boxes, but when I save changes, it restores all the tactics....i want to play at lvl "nightmare" with pauses and direct orders to any pg, butit can't be done if all tactics aren't off.
did you uncheck the boxes for any type of tactics (aggressive---passive---defensive, etc)?

I asked a question regarding this in an earlier post. I have disabled all my tactics and am using the "default" behavior setting but, my companions are still selecting, moving to, and attacking targets w/o any input from me. They won't use abilities/spells, which is good, but, I don't want them to do anything w/o me commanding them to do so.  I have been going crazy trying to figure out how to completely disbale companion AI.

Stinging Velvet, are you saying that if I also put them in Hold mode during combat (along with disabling all tactics slots and using "default" behavior) they will not move or attack anything unless specifically given the command to do so directly by me? Because that would be awesome.

Hopefully someone will give more details. I found that they will take one swing and then stop or start moving somewhere. I want them to attack a target and not stop until I tell them different.

I'm actually hoping for the DA mode that activates tactics for the active player so I can manage combat in real-time instead of pause to get combo effects with the main character. It was much easier to micro-manage when you only had to occationally put in a command.

Exactly, this. And if the target they are attcking dies, I want to them to stand there doing absolutly nothing until I give them new orders.

To prevent your party from moving towards enemies without your command you have to add one more step after disabling all the tactics boxes for every character:

Click on HOLD MODE.

make all of your ranged and mages stay in one spot while your tank moves forward to draw out the first wave of enemies.

They will all still make ranged attacks when combat begins until you issue a specific command or instruct them to target someone specifically, but after enabling HOLD MODE, you will have 100% control over the positioning of each character.

Thanks guys.
Finally, I got used to play with "hold mode" on and all the tactics boxes unchecked.
Still, i think that a single button called "disable all the fracking tactics" would have been a better solution ;)

I assign each custom tactics with one condition - self, being attacked, any type, wait. Simple then they stand there doing nothing unless I tell them individually to do otherwise. For boss battles I switch Anders to a custom healing tactics so he does not fight but heals everyone else as much as he can.
