I realize that in comparison to many of the issues others (and me) are experiencing this is a completely trivial complaint but I'm gonna make it anyway.
Why does the PC version of the game have the "press any key to start" screen?? For that matter, why does the console version have it?? For that matter, why the heck console games in general have it??
The original reason for that screen was that that's how you literally started the game - you press start, pick luigi or mario and start playing. These days most games, even on consoles, have menu screens with options, and extras, and credits, and other crap, oh and most importantly "start new game" buttons. So why, in the name of all that's pure and good, do developers insist on putting that stupid screen in there. It doesn't serve any purpose (you can run a demo sequence from the menu as well). I mean, to put it simply, it's bad design, and I don't mean it's bad design because I don't like it, it's bad design by the freaking book. It introduces an extra action, extra complexity, extra "click" if you will, for nothing at all, as in nada, zip, zilch! I mean at best, it means you have to click/press twice to start a game. At worst, I have to come back to this again, because it's so mindboggling - It. Doesn't. Do. Anything.
So having said all that, you know what, fine. If developers want to stick a stupid screen in there out of "tradition", because "everybody's doing it" on consoles? Fine I can live with that. I can certainly see the argument (albeit an extremely flimsy one) that removing that screen will confuse and scare gamers who are used to it.
However, why do they insist on putting on PC games?!? They've done in ME, they've done it in DA2, and apparently they also done it in Crysis 2. What the heck is wrong with these people. Even if you say that the PC version is a straight port of the consoles, which of course all the developers always claim that it's not, and at least in case of Crysis 2 I believe them, then if they went through the trouble of changing the code enough to accomodate keyboard and a mouse why can't they remove that stupid, useless, waste-of-bytes, screen? It's not a complex piece of code - I mean heck, and if statement, will do, or just comment out a function call - it's trivial.
Oh well, screw it. I have no hope this will ever change. Certainly not with the direction this industry is taking. I'm done with my rant. Delete away.
What's with the "click to start" screen on PC??
