Why did the storywriters do such a thing? I mean, losing a sibling is hard, losing the other was pretty heartbreaking for me and now the mother? What the heck? I mean, heroes suffer etc. I understand that much, but to kill ALL of her/his family seems a bit drastic, dosen't it?

I am a bit angry at myself for being such a family sucker, lol :D

Well since his mother blamed him for his siblings death I can't imagine they were close.

the fate of his mother is so ridiculous and over the top that it's funny

Pretty sure there was a quote from Dave Gaider somewhere saying that mom's death is inavoidable.:(

You can prevents the death of your siblings, but Mama Hawke is doa, sry2say. It sucks, she's the only member in Hawke's family that I could stand in Kirkwall.

What do you mean losing both siblings? Carver was alive at the end, for me. Actually now that I think about it, I didn't see him at the very end, and I didn't see him die either; the last thing I saw was him sticking up for me by stepping in front.

If you take Carver/Beth to the Deep Roads without Anders they die

Losing the Mother like that , really bummed me over. I felt like my playing cheer is gone...to think that his happend right after I asked Merrill to move in.......

That S.O.B Quentin.... killing him too quickly didn't ease my pain . I will try that in nightmare mode and enjoy every bit of pain I inflict from him.

Now all my concern will be protecting Bethany at all costs from Templar....... I don't care about Kirkwall or Qunari. If something gonna happen to her , I will go into a frenzy.......

Yeah, Hawkes life isn't the finest of things. Lol, I found it amazing that my character didn't go a wee bit insane after his mom died. Carver or Bethany I usually let be Grey Wardens though, their useful during the ending of the game.

Hmmm.... Act 2 has some really good ups with Aveline's The Long Road, Varrics gangster-bit and a real heartbreaker of a q when mom dies. I was sniffling pretty bad first time I did that. I think it fits in pretty well with the story for my Hawke,  losing the siblings one after one. First one dies and the second one either dies or is taken away from home. When finally losing the mother and then facing general mayhem when the qunari takes over, there is simply nothing left to lose. Just fling yourself at the Kunari and try to save the things you have left. Your life and your friends. Jupp.... it's a hard life being a Hawke. Good thing she's such a though girl =)

edit: spelling is always... interesting

This is what happened to my Hawke on my first time through. I was so depressed after Leandra was killed. It did seem like a bit too much, I agree.

Even with the knowledge that the sibling that makes it to Kirkwall can actually survive the deep roads (by either leaving them behind or bringing Anders on the expedition), they still get taken away as a teammate. It's a bummer. It would have been nice to be able to somehow keep Hawke's brother/sister in the party. I wonder if they got rid of them in order to force the player to use other characters as party members?

Yeah My Hawke definitley seemed like a bitter and exausted adventurer by the end of the game. I figure that after fleeing Kirkwall for siding with the Mages he got fed up with the whole revolution and setteled in some remote village with Merrill, hoping to wait out all the trouble.

I wish there had been more from Mum Hawke in Act 2. A mission, or a conversation or two where she talked about how she met Dad Hawke or something would have been nice. There was some nice characterisation for Carver and horrid Uncle Gamlen (less so for Saint Beth) but something to make Mum Hawke more of her own character and less generic mum would have set her up as much more valuable in preparation for the grisly serial-killer antics.

I think Hawke puts it best.

Hawke: Just one week I would like to go without meeting an insane mage. Just one week!
