No.

Yes. That's public knowledge and Bioware itself is the source.

Take a look at the 5 week sales thread - word of mouth has kicked in and sales have taken a nosedive.

Any chance for a link?

I don't think that was a set goal, but a 'Projection' of their estimated sales.
But!
What their true aim was, was 10 million sales, aparantly.

No. No, it wasn't. Stop taking things out of context. It's intellectually dishonest.

It's not selling well, and most of it's sales come from DA:Os reputation and marketing, so they game hasn't even earned most of it's sales on it's own. It makes me glad that this insult of a sequel fails like so hard. Let that be a lesson to them.
You tried to catch the CoD audience and you failed. In the process you scared of the large fanbase and abandoned the market you already had, now you are left with less than before and you deserve it BioWare/EA.

From the article you linked:

"Sometimes I'm facetious when I say some of those things, knowing that we can sell a few million but seeing that someone else can sell 25 [million]. You're kinda like, 'Well, that's a hit!' We always joke that if we only do half as well as Blizzard on Star Wars: The Old Republic, we'll be quite satisfied.

"We've been very fortunate. I always joke about that, but..."

---

So in reality, he was joking, wasn't even talking about DA2, but Bioware games in general, AND said if TOR sells half as much as Blizzard they'll be quite satisfied..

Can we stop with the hyperbole about Bioware's projections, when nothing in that article was a projection.

This is where the 4.5 mil comes from. It's also a very interesting read. Even from an analyst's POV, alienating the fanbase and trolling them with mediocre DLC is bad for business.

For some reason I am getting "access denied", could you paste the article? Also, just by the title of the link, is it huliq or bioware that is projecting DA2 over 4.5 million?

Oh so it's just some random analyst's prediction? Well at the moment DA2 is hovering between 1-2million I believe and the ME2 offer will certaintly boost sales. However, I don't think (but it's possible) it'll get the 3.25 million in 6 months the guy predicts but then again I don't know anything about sales trends.

The Huliq people are predicting 4.5 million in 12 months and 3.25 million in 6 months. He then goes on a bit about his personal feelings for the game the future sales.

So the projections that the people on the board are laughing at Bioware for making....weren't actually made by Bioware to begin with.

Funny.

It's a problem with the link,I think. I can't access the page either when I use it. Just google it. The prediction is by Huliq and some other firm.

Personal opinion, though: sales are abysmal and don't even account for returns. If worldwide sales across all platforms reach 2 mil this year I'll be genuinely surprised.

Well, according to Bioware, it was over a million after 2 weeks, so it will at least hit 1.5 million before the year is out, more likely a 2 million seller after price drop and the holiday season. Given the fast development cycle and the amount of time(or lack of) it took to make this game on an pre-made engine... they will have turned a tidy profit.

Fact: a little over 1 million copies were *moved* in two weeks, not including digital downloads.

Nuance: 400 thousans units preordered, which is still a third of current total sales, and the sales numbers don't account for returns, which, considering the mixed reviews and Xbox being the dominant platform, could be quite high.

I'm a little confused on what you mean by "returns". As far as I know, you can't return an open game for full price, only trade in credit at places like EB.. Unless laws on opened games are different in countries outside the U.S. and that's what you're referring to.

So basically, at least in America, once you opened it, it's yours. If you "return" it for store credit, it still counts as a sale.

Also, this article, and others like it, specificially say "sold", not "moved" although I have no idea what the difference would be..
