I'm all for different opinions but in the case of Oblivion, it's a great game IMO and the mods are out of this world! Transforms the game in ways you can't imagine! I started off playing Kotor, Oblivion, and others on consoles but when I started building my own pcs, I had no idea what I was missing as far as mods were concerned. DA2 would greatly benefit from mods. That would help the sales, at least for pc players. I don't think console players are even buying into this game either.....not according to Amazon.
How could they have expected us to buy this game while completely changing almost everything that established the franchise? A highly risky move! It's really a shame that we have to play through levels of the very same map over and over again. There's almost no customization or exploration. The story also falls short of anything Bioware has ever done before. The characters don't feel connected to me. You run into people you know and have histroy with but you have actually never met them before. It all occured offscreen. Hawke feels more like an npc you get to control, as though he were on loan from Bioware, not a character I get to create or live through. Isn't that what role playing is all about? I don't know if it's the framed narrative but you've taken too much of "me" out of the equation and that kills immersion into the story. Even Shepard felt much more "mine" than Hawke does. No attention to detail in setting, story, or characters, the hallmarks of a Bioware game. Creating a game of this nature, announcing that your target audience are non rpg fans, calling the game DA2 when it really isn't a sequel, attempting to sell it first to your fanbase while at the same time alienating them? None of this adds up or makes any sense to me.
If this game fails to sell, there isn't anyone to blame other then the creative team who figured they could pull one over on us. I honestly hope it all works out in the end. It shouldn't have had to come to this but the only way they can fill in the blanks is with QUALITY dlc...which may have been the plan all along. A toolset would be nice as well, although through sheer ingenuity, the files that have been locked away from modders are being cracked on a daily basis. Something to look forward to at least. Hey Bioware, if you want our support, why not support us? Target the fans that made you and find more creative ways to bring others onboard.
