Conspiracy nut much? "All reivewers are bought!" Yes of course they are. And the moonlanding was faked. And the Lizard People rule the earth.

Join me in bowing to our reptilian overlords!

That metacritic review is most worthless thing i have seen on the internet in quite a while. A bunch of butt hurt, petulant and self absorbed gamers and trolls bum rushing the review because they feel Bioware betrayed them.  God forbid Bioware try to increase sales and fanbase and make what they see as improvements to thier IP.

I have yet to see an honest, calm objective review of DA2 amongst all the cries, whines and bashing. It is usually best to just stay away from the forums for about a month following release of a title.

Wouldn't you agree that a game of this caliber shouldn't be even close to average? Come on.

Users reviews are extremely valuable. Next time you take $2000 of your hard earned money to buy a new television on Amazon, or from Tiger Direct or whoever, I dare you to purchase the TV with the lowest user review ratings. Put your money where your mouth is trolls.

QFT

I always look at user reviews even when I buy some small time things from newegg.
I don't care what some magazine review says about product because at the end of the day they are getting paid for writting it whereas consumer reviewer pays for trying it.

I want to know how you can denounce DA2 as average in one breath, and praise Jade Empire and Sonic with the other?

Guys, i repeat it over and over. With repeatable locations, bad animation, hack & slash style, VERY bad dialogs, poor mechanics YOU CANT get more than 7/10. I see complains in EVERY GAME if you got monster "from air" and this kind of stuff are considered a BUG. Here it's happen all the time!. When i got on coast 12 time to make some "kill and bring" quest i expect bunch of monster "energized from Enterprise" right before me just to be dead in a second. Loot of stuff in this game is bad and even Bioware said that EA rush the game a loot because they want to pray on Origins success..
Story is only good thing in DA II.

I think that 6-7/10 is a very good rating for Dragon Age II. If you thing that what I'm saying is wrong then please, tell me where I missed something. Please.

Even if you think numeric scores are inflated on the game sites official reviews, the big difference between them and 99% of user-reviews is that they have to at least make a sensible sounding argument for the game.  They have to list what they liked and why they liked it.  You the reader can say, "What?  He likes that they removed inventory from ME2?  I hate that idea!" (to use one example).

Meanwhile one of those metacritic zero-scores for DA2 is literally some guy copy/pasting the sentence "This is a bad game" until the character limit was reached.  There are no doubt some actually fair criticisms in there but it really just looks like a lot of irate people ran over and zeroed the game on MC.

I know scores drive sales, but if you want to be an informed purchaser of games you learn to READ reviews, not just look at numeric scores.  Go to meta-critic by all means.  But read the reviews themselves.   Not just the rollup.  It's not hard to separate the non-frothing-at-the-mouth fair reviews from the flaming trolls and gushing fanboys.

In the end though the only thing that is going to matter to EA/Bioware is the sales figures.   And I don't mean just the opening weeks.  If the sales trail off rapidly that will be evidence that something needs to change.  Crap games might have good opening sales, but time will tell.

Oblivion's only redeaming value was there was a toolset nearly right away, and we could fix the game.  So we did.

I gave DA2 a user score of 7 out of 10. That's really the best I could do.

7/10 is a realistic review for DA2... there are some very serious composition problems with the game that are hard to argue with... I think, though, that DAO should also be around that too (maybe a little higher, but not by much).

DA2 solved a number of serious problems with DAO (no more boring, wandering side quests and combat... no fragmented origins stories that leaves huge pieces of narration lost to most players, etc, etc, etc) and also introduces some others (painfully re-used maps... some emotional disconnects from the protagonist, etc, etc etc) unfortunately a bunch of the loudest people on the internet were expecting Origins 2 and as such have had extreme reactions to DA2.

The fact that there are already user reviews up shortly after the game has been released means that... THEY'RE NOT LEGITMATE. :wizard:

Shouldn't have affected the review scores though. Oblivion was inferior to Morrowind in almost every way and yet it smashes all records and gets game of the year. However according to your formula it shouldn't have gotten over 7/10... which sounds about right... but it did. So there you go.

But it did. As did DA2.
Same reason. Big publisher with lots of advertising money = good review.
The only reason why there was less backlash for Oblivion was the editor as the disappointed fans could simply bake the game better through it instead of being forced to complain to Bethesda to make the game better.

The user scores means nothing. ~300 people jumped the band wagon and gave it a 0 or a 1. Simple as that.

This. DA2 deserves no 9.0+ score, for sure, but 3? Come on, it's just nerd rage, and it's so cool and hip to bash this game.

Or it could be that people are genuinely ticked off over the game.  And unlike other sites, Metacritic isn't deleting or modifying reviews to put the game in a better light.

3 nah.  4 sure, 5 is about right.  But it sure shouldn't be higher than 7.

The usual fanboy defense.
Nonono, all those opinions are not valid. A lot of people are dissapointed with the game. Deal with it.
And user scores mean everything, Reviewers can write as much as they want, but what the user thinks of the game decides how successful it is.

Indeed. And even if you READ the reviews, you can see most critics are clearly disappointed, but afraid to give under 8.

Thats a sure way to recognize if a reviewer was given a minimum score he had to give. When they rant on and on about all the failures the game has, either in the review itself or in their commentary, but then give near perfect scores.

Just because all trolls teamed up to give it poor score, doesnt mean its credible. I could ask 200 people to rate a game with 1/10 and you wouldnt find it credible either.

Disappointed, doesnt mean its a 0/10. It's nerd ragers, and people who are butt-hurt that they didn't get the exact game that they wanted. Most of the reviews were up even before the game was out, it's happened plenty of times before. Look at any of the ****** fanboy wars between 360/ps3. Any new game comes out thats a big thing for the other system, and the fanboys attack, voting like crazy to give it a ****ty user score, just out of spite. Here we have a case, of the same damn thing, except these people aren't even doing it to attack the other side - they're doing it to attack the people who have brought us how many hours of fun, and good times. You don't like the changes they made, DON'T BUY THE GAME. They aren't here to cater to some self entitled, spoiled brats. They made a game they wanted to make, how they wanted to make it. Was it perfect? Hell no, but it was a damn fine game on it's own. Now these poor excuse for 'gamers' are hurting one of the few developers who have brought us so many quality games, that they deserve the benefit of the doubt. Go play some Call of Duty, if you want the same thing over and over, Every god damn year!
