I tried to equip armor to carver that i didn't need from the DLC when i realized that it said only for (insert_name_here) hawke so i thought maybe the DLC is just for hawke i picked up some regular armor and tried to equp it then realized all armor you pick up except for the companion armor is only for your hawke. is this a bad or good move in my opinion i just liked the ability to give my companion any armor i didn't want but didn't want to sell or sit in the inventory until i wanted it again. so what do you guys think about this choiceImage IPB

In DA3 you'll not even able to change your armor.
It will automatically upgrade when leveling up.

I couldn't find this out in the demo because the inventory was locked, of course i feel cheated. How do you feel?

This is exactly what they did with Mass Effect 2, every squaddie having their own outift and not being able to equip them with different armor. BioWare seems to be dumbing down the RPG elements for non-RPG'ers

Very poor design decision. Maybe they figured it would go over well because it wasn't a huge deal with ME2, but keep in mind ME has never been a serious RPG series. It's an action game as much as anything, and was always light on RPG elements (which isn't to say I approve of them removing in ME, either, but it was not quite as disheartening).

But DA seemed like it was the series for the serious, cRPG lover. That's what it was originally billed as, and it should remain as such. Stripping so many RPG elements, that I thought worked quite well in DA:O, is simply poor design.

Doesn't bother me. I found this thread at an opportune time because I thought I couldn;t equip my companiosn at all but I have just realised I can give them weapons and jewellry and i'm more than happy with that! Now my Staff of Parlathan can be used by Bethany while I take the greatsword. Yay!

^^^ True. I do hope, if they ever do a sequel to Dragon Age 2 (which they probably will) that they bring back the RPG elements from DA:O.

Equipment progression systems are universally stupid. The only thing equipment should ever do is customize and enhance tactics.

In this regard they did better, companions should be responsible for their own equipment, not the PC. But they also didn't do well enough, the PC has to constantly upgrade stuff to slighty better for no reason other than the numbers scale like crap. At least they're trying.

Yeeeeah, I was really disappointed to realize I couldn't put any armor on any other characters in DA2. Image IPB I enjoyed changing up the looks of my whole gang on DAO. Made it feel personalized, and I especially liked it when I didn't like the character's stock outfit design. (Like Morrigan. I changed her clothes first chance I got. Image IPB)
I understand that a lot of the controversial changes were done to streamline the developmental process, due to EA wanting Bioware to get the product out the door faster. I dunno if that's TRUE, but it seems like a logical conclusion. Image IPB

Quite a possibility, it's not funny.  Might as well as just make DA2 completely an action game and forget weapons/armor/trash items all together.

This.

The longer I play CRPGs, the more I realize that CRPG tradition = all the bad aspects of AD&D.

I love how ridiculous you people are. You can upgrade their armor with runes and armor upgrades. The only thing that doesn't change is there appearance, and lets be honest... In DA:O there was no variety in equipment, 2 types of leather armor, 4 types of plate armor, 3 types of robes... Overall you ended up having a silly looking party. Seriously, how many of you left Morrigans robes untouched because she would look ridiculous in anything else?

If you aren't happy with their appearances just wait till they release the modding tools or whatever, and people will mod your companions like they did in DA:O.

It is quick irksome that you have all these great armor pieces that would be wonderful on your NPC... instead... they are sold to vendor because you already have good armor.

That could mean many things... Like how you won't be able to mod the game so you can have Carver live, if you picked warrior, or Bethany live if you picked mage, it would screw up the story. Instead you could be able to do cosmetic modding, like character appearances, more hair styles, more eye colors. Cosmetics wouldn't effect the story like modding the game to keep someone alive who was suppose to die in the game...

Also just because you can't mod the game to the extent of DA:O, doesn't mean you can't mod at all.

@ sinvx just because i don't have the money to buy a gaming pc and prefer to play things like ps3 and 360 exclusives does not warrant the fact to make fun of my choice. i chose console because i can play the games i love aand it's cheaper than a pc it doesn't mean i don't want one just have no choice

They aren't responsible at all though. You still have to buy upgrades and runes for their armor with your own money. Rather than being independant characters they're more like lazy roommates who wear the same soiled pants and shirt for months on end while you staple air fresheners to them to make things bearable.

I hate that we can't equip our companions.  I like that each character has their own look, but it takes away from the game.  We should have been able to build our companions and equip as we saw fit.

Also, what is up with the lack of detail for the item thumbnails.  I feel like I am playing the original Final Fantasy with a stencil sword to repsent my weapon.  With so much detail paid the the environments I feel let down that these little details weren't covered.:(

People who are disappointed that the problem of limited variety in DA:O was 'solved' with an even more limited variety in DA2 are ridiculous?

If they just said 'Sorry, Varric is just a ****ty storyteller. That will never happen again.' I would be fine with that and pretend the mediocre DA2 was a dream.

I WANT TO BELIEVE!
