Why so much junk?

Why is there so much junk items? Wasn't dragon age 2 supposed to fix up the inventory? Sure, you cut down potions and such, and made useless items automatically in the junk section, but why so much of it? Why have useless items at all? At the very least, you could just use a universal "junk" item.

Like, every crate I opened up has a new junk item, taking up more room. This needs improvement.

Just so that people have something to sell? I guess it's more realistic than just finding gold everywhere.

It's filler.

You cut down drastically on dungeon crawling when you dont have stuff to pick up.

Which is funny, because you find both junk and money everywhere.

I agree what the hell is the point of it? The lootable items are quite poor and boring.

Different junk items makes for better immersion

Which you know, roleplaying games should have.

so you can feel like you're managing your inventory. Even though you're either just destroying it all or clicking the sell junk button somewhere.

I like that some of the junk you pick up is actually useful for someone else and adds a "quest". Although its not explained (at all) of how Hawke knows who the owner of that junk is.

I wouldn't find it so bad if they actually had graphics of the junk items. Very small point but looking at a bunch of trash cans in my inventory I thought was pretty bizarre.

Because casual gamers don't want to look through a list of 10 weapons and 20 armor for what to sell.

Which is better, junk or simply gold?
IMO, the only thing that needs a change is: Autosell (disable from options of course) junk when visiting a merchant and junk doesn't take up inventory space. Actually, space that concept (pun intentional...) for real. Unlimited inventory or fixed max limit, better that way. Or maybe inventory limited by party member strength average?

It also sells for almost no gold. Ive sold dozens of trash at a time for less than 2-3 silvers.

Vendor trash.  It's a slightly round about but limited way to add to the player's funds.

There's a lot of junk laying around. Not nearly as much as fallout, but it's certainly there. You don't have to pick it up :P

But... Why not make the vendor trash into one item? Or simply hand out gold?

Well in next Bioware games I propose to put 'stars' in dungeons and elsewhere like in arcade games on pegasus. Then you could exchange for eample them at npc like 350 for better sword or 500 stars for chest piece. You know why bother with gold, armor , gems , and other junk?

And bosses could you know drop 'upgrades' f.e for defeating certain boss you would get your sword bigger, another would make your swings faster.

Jey! *roll eyes*

Let's do it Mario Bros Style!

I hope all BioWare design meetings are just as creative and profound.

except with the generic two-tone icons everything of like category share due to laziness in not created at least a FEW unique icons....you're point is invalid.  Not to mention there's practically no "inspection" text like at least a few items in DA:O had.

I propose junk streamlining:
instead of sh*tty items, let players find GPS items - that stands for Gold per Second

Take that, Wow!
