Okay, so I just hit Act 3 after putting down the Qunari rebellion... And suddenly Merril is weeping, talking about how 'she' is gone, and I'm getting banter between her and Anders about how she got possessed or something... But I have no idea why. My last convo with her was about fixing the mirror after I got the elven wood-carving thing.
Did I miss, like, and entire side-mission or something? I never was notified about another quest, and never had any options to talk to her after I got the blade for her... Did I hit some kind of glitch that makes the game think I've done somethign when I haven't?
I'm so confused.
Wait, what? (Merrill question, minor spoilers)

I think it's an error. That scene should be after a later quest. I had this same problem.

I had something like this happen to me as well. I assumed that it was a game flag error.

If you follow all of Merrills companion quests she eventually completes the mirror, releases a daemon the forces you to kill the Keeper, and then the elves rebel against you forcing you to kill the entire Dalish elven camp. The glitch you are mentioning should come as the end of her quest line. It happened in my first play through as well, but didn't in the second, so it must be a random glitch.

It's a bug. That cutscene is supposed to happen after you've done a few things for her in Act 3.

Ohhh, okay. That makes sense.
Yeah, this game is slightly more buggy than I was anticipating. Oh well.

Thanks for the clarification. I was so confused. I was all like, "Hey! Why you crying!? Nothing bad happened!" and then stuff happened and I was so taken back that I had forgotten about that scene.
