I hope BioWare continues to ignore these posts.
Like everyone, I was skeptical with the ME2 changes at first. But in the end I liked it much more than ME1. The non-combat side quests were a bit clunky, but otherwise the mechanics were extremely well designed. The "complexity" of ME1 was faux complexity and I often found myself wanting to write Bots to automate the process.
Likewise, I have been playing DA2 now and I like it much more than DA:O. The gameplay is much better; I find myself being far, far more tactical with my party than I ever was in DA:O. The side missions are infinitely superior to those in DA:O. And the character writing is very solid. The only problem I have with DA2 is the recycling of locations. It is extensive and immersion-breaking. But both DA:O and ME1 both had this problem as well.
Face it. The people posting on these forums are in the minority. The reason why the DA2 forums are overrun with haters is because the rest of us are playing the d*mn game. In fact, I am on this forum and not the DA2 forums to avoid spoilers, as I am not done yet.

That's right. With the ME2 characters fanbases put off, ME3 risks to get the same treatment DA2 is getting ATM, even if it is objectively a bettter game than ME2.
To show or not to show,* that is the question!

Again, I can't speak for others, but my general problem with ME2 is not that it has no iventory and stuff like that. It's the clearly Action/Gears of War oriented change of direction that is. The Inventory in ME1 didn't really work well I agree. I disagree with removing the inventory completely instead of fixing it though. As you pointed out the sidequests feel a bit clunky and so did the Uncharted worlds in ME1. It still felt more like you were exploring the area than walking down linear paths until you reach your destination like in ME2 though.
I'd be fine with most changes if they were made to improve the RPG elements. Most were made to take those elements out of the game in favor of more action though. Of course there are some people who like more action (like you I guess) and basically I have nothing against it either. Problems come in when the action is put into places where I don't want and/or expect it.
In other words: If I want that kind of action I go and buy a third person shooter or something like Resident Evil 4.
From a Bioware game owever I'd expect the quality RPG experience they continued to provide over the years and not a change of direction towards other genres. There are other people making better shooters out there but hardly anyone who can make RPGs like Bioware.
Well, badly structured post is structured bad.
Kinda hard to express all of this in English, so I'm sorry if the writing is a little clunky. You get the idea though.

I see...
"Generally favorable reviews based on 68 Critics"
You must have pretty low standards to consider 50% or 60% to be "average." Even that 74% is borderline, IMNSHO, especially considering BioWare's track record.
No, based solely on those numbers, they're not exactly negative, but when you consider the verbal content of those reviews, it's pretty clear that the reviewers weren't really in love with the game.
As though it would matter, I also seem to recall them giving it a 3 out of 5 (60%) on X-Play, as well.
Would I play Dragon Age 2? Absolutely, but unless someone gave me their game, it won't be until it gets down to $20 that it'll see the inside of my DVD-ROM. Even then, my money's not exactly going to be burning a hole in my wallet. Afterall, I'm still having far too much fun playing Dragon Age: Origins...lol

2011 is going to be a bad year for Bioware. I'll be very surprised if they come out of this as anything more than a single studio dedicated to keeping a failed MMO on life support.

That's the one that gets me the most. Never expected BioWare to be so lazy. A lot of the criticism against DA2 is overblown (the storytelling elements seem like classic BioWare), but the recycled areas just reeks of amateurism. I can't even imagine the Mass Effect team doing something similar. Mass Effect 2's production values blow Dragon Age 2 out of the water. No doubt about that.
BioWare should be getting all sorts of well-deserved flak for that. Still love'em though, and still planning on buying ME3 and SW:TOR unless some unforseeable thing happens.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked Mass Effect 2, but nowhere near as much as the original. Along with another short development cycle in a series (after seeing what happened with Dragon Age 2), I'm afraid, very afraid, my favorite series will see similar lack of quality/copy and pasting.
There was also issues from before, like how I and others felt ME2 was stripped of rpg elements of the first, and appeased too much to the shooting genre. I'm terrified that the hallways will still be narrow, that there will be too much shooting, and the story will be less complex and fascinating. I'm also worried about the earth focused theme, again, a perceived catering to the shooting genre. I used to defend Mass Effect against the shooting genre, now I feel to betrayed to really give a vigorous defense. If they ruin Mass Effect, it'll be their rift because its their IP, but I will be extremely and brutally let down.
I played the original Mass Effect today...I had a blast and it was sooooooo much fun. It confirmed for me how much better it was than ME2. ME2 benefited from the shooting crowd...if hack and slash were as popular as shooting genres are DA2 would be much more popular.
For me, this is their last chance. I love rpgs, and I like some rpgs with some solid action elements, but too many rpg elements are being sacrificed and a shooter/rpg hybrid isn't fun at all.
I hope I'm wrong, and ME3 is amazing

And that's exactly my point. MMOs are insanely expensive to develop and maintain, if they aren't received well they can easily sink a developer. Look at what happened to Mythic with Warhammer; and that's from an experienced studio with a respectable prior entry in the MMO market with Dark Age of Camelot. Bioware has never attempted an MMO before. If TOR doesn't do well, it could be their tombstone.

Because Dragon Age 2 was the first Bioware game to recycle the same dungeon over and over.

What the DA Team wants and did has no effect on what the ME Team wants and will do. Not to mention that ME has been planned as a trilogy for many years while DA doesn't know where to go after the success of slaying an Archdemon.
