I know others are having this same issue, and there are threads about it in general discussion, but since none of them have gotten any response from someone up on high I thought this forum might be the place to bring it up since people actually respond to the threads here.

In the beginning of Act 2, when all of the "go talk to" companion quests are given, Merrill's "Mourning" quest seems to auto-complete the moment all the quests come in and you are notified of them (after the talk with the viscount). Going to her house to speak with her just gets you the usual "messy house" line. I've replayed the end of Act 1 and the beginning of Act 2 several times and it auto-completes every time without fail. Another posted noted that he played the whole deep roads quests through twice, once bringing bethany and once not, getting the same results each time.

Others have also reported that Merrill doesn't respond to the end of her questline later in the game, and that upon romancing her she becomes locked into the party. But I've yet to play that far (kind of hoping the game can be fixed before then).

Merrill has different quests you can get at the beginning of Act 2, depending on if you took your sibling with you into the Deep Roads or not.
If you took your sibling with you, you will get "Mourning", wich gives me the same problems as the OP described.
The other quest "Consoling Words" did work for me, but I also heard some experienced similar problems with this one.

Same problem here. tried several reloads of a save just after the Ancient rock wraith fight and still auto-completes. I really hope they come out with a fix for this soon. by the way I have the SE boxed version of the game not the digital.

Ive also had the same issue with Merril's "Mourning" quest, i did the deep roads expedition twice, both with bethany in the group and got the auto-complete on the Mourning quest on both try's. Hopefully they will patch this up soon.

Someone on Gamestop forum mentioned that he got the quest to work when he left Carver behind on the Deep Road Expidition, haven't started playing my mage so I'm not sure if that information is legitimate or not, would anyone care to test it out?

I wouldn't know about Carver, but I left Bethany at home. Mourning still auto-completes. I get Consoling Words but absolutely no Companion quests with Merrill past that. I don't know why Mourning would auto-complete if I'm not even supposed to have it but...there you have it.

maybe we should start separate topic for Merrill bugs? It seems there are a lot of them

Merrill is interesting character, but is a shame that her conversations are sometimes out of order and some quests are autocompleted.
*SPOILER* In the beginning of act 3 i got conversation with her about keeper Marathary being dead, but everyone is fine there. It seems I got a spoiler:(

Same for me as well.

Frustrating since I like this character and all I get to look forward to in the game for her is glitches.

I've spent too much time trying to get the quest work including the runscript zz_mrl_debug command.

Nothing works for me.

I don't recall ever seeing a bug of this magnitude in a bioware release before.

Please fix it soon!

We're looking in to it. I'd also like to reaffirm that the 'Mourning' quest is simply Merrill talking to you about your sibling. The Act 2 companion quest for Merrill is called Mirror Image

Will Mirror Image still come up even if Mourning doesn't? I'd heard that companion quests come up solely based on friendship/rivalry levels, and yet Mirror Image is nowhere to be found.

I was about halfway through act 2 and no "Mirror Image" had come up. Should it be showing up earlier than that?

I had the same Mourning quest complete bug however The Mirror Image quest still showed up in my log for Companion Quests- after reporting back to the Viscount to wrap up the Blackpowder Courtesy Main Plot quest. Have you completed this quest yet?

As Mr.Barrett advised, the Mourning quest is just simple dialogue, so it seems the rest of the quests for Merrill (at least for me) are on track after that point regardless.

That's good to hear. Thanks for letting us know you're working on it Bioware.

Hopefully there won't be to many Merrill glitches. In all honesty, that's really the only plot glitch I've had in the game so far.

Is there a console command that can be entered to add her quest?

I think I've also got this bug. Mourning went to auto complete but I also got Consoling Words. I left Carver behind, so nothing happened to him and Mourning shouldn't have happened at all, right?

yes, mourning happens when Carver dies or becomes a gray warden.

In the beginning of act 3 you will be stopped, if you want to continue Merrill's quest, because it is bugged.

The mourning auto-completion also prevents you from getting the "Merrill - After Deep Roads" codex entry. Shame really, poor girl is the only non-updated companion in my Journal. :/

Has anyone who chose to make their sibling a Grey Warden actually received the Mourning quest at the start of Act 2? Or is it bugged for everyone and people haven't noticed that it's completed in their quest log? Also the whole event is bugged...I tried to use the console to jump to the conversation but it won't trigger that way either.

Nope, seems like the quest has the "completed" flag no matter what.

Though I've managed(only once and with the console no less) to trigger the "Consoling Words" cutscene after Beth goes to the Circle.

But after Beth joins the Wardens and the Mourning? No dice.

Really? If this happens for everyone that's a pretty terrible indictment of BioWare's testing methods. :(
