The problem is not with the Mirror Image quest but with the very small dialogue-quest mourning where
SPOILER when you talk with Merrill about the death of your brother/sister at the end of act1 if you bring Carver/Bethany with you END SPOILER

It is really something minor however i really would like to be fixed since we all paid for the full game and BTW Merrill is my favourite character ^^

Also a lot of people are reporting problems in Act 3 with Merril's quests.

Yeah I completed act 3 merril quest, (which turned out rather badly) and exited the area, now I believe it's bugged in that she acts like it never happened and the quest isn't complete. No response by her at her house afterwards either.

Same thing here. I hope Bioware fixes this plot bug soon as it is pretty important to the game. Anyone know if 1.01 fixed this?

I don't think it has, the patch notes don't mention anything about it.

had the same bug, only the "post-quest reaction"conversation happened as I first talked to her in act 3(before the "Talking To" quest dialogue)

I'd like to add a voice to the "fix it, dammit!" crowd. :-)  By far, Merrill is my favorite character; cracks me up on a regular basis.  I don't know who the voice actress was that does her, but she was perfect for this character.  I've *just* completed Act 1 and am at the beginning of Act 2, and I've gotten to speak with each of my companions - *except* for Merrill's "Consoling Words" chat "quest."  I go to her home, and she has nothing to say other than about her messy house.  I even used the console command to run her debug stuff and picked the Act 2 beginning talk (or whatever it's called in that selection).  It whisked me right away to her home - where all she had to say to me when I clicked on her was about her messy home.  I'm not sure if I should continue playing or hope for a quick fix/patch from Bioware and just sit on my hands because I don't want to mess up friendship progression with her if I overshoot the quest and *then* a patch goes out (at which point, I can't fall back to the quest).

I've got the boxed Special Edition version, in case that matters. :-)

So yea, folks at Bioware, please fix this bug soon!

I have also the same problem with autocompletion of Merill Mourning quest at the beginning of Act 2. I guess I will leave her romance for my next playthrough after I update the game with hopefully offical patch then.

I agree :(. I was expecting a certain amount of bugs at launch since the game seems to have been rushed but many of the quests are broken or bugged unless done in specifically random order as to have one glitch over-wright another. I really hope ME3 is beta tested better than DA2 :(. I dont want to seem ungrateful as this game seems to have a great story and alot of potential to advance the DA IP. However being unable to play and getting locked in the story by bugs that must have been seen before launch by someone is painful. I pre-ordered the game the moment it was anounced and would have been irritated and depressed over it getting released later than they said, however I would have been much more understanding concidering the number on bugs currently making it all but unplayable. Im sorry if my post sounds offensive to anyone, but this really needs to be fixed.

p.s. The patch 1.01 also seems to have made the game even far more broken.

Yeah, I've been avoiding my game for over a week now hoping for them to fix this.

It's one thing to pay 60$ so that we can beta test this game, that much I'm used to at this point, welcome to gaming in the 21st century. But the game is just broken all over, and nothing is being done about it. One of the only two romances in the game (for a straight male anyway) is now essentially unavailable due to the myriad bugs with Merrill's quest line and friendship/romance plots. The game is supposed to be about choice, but only some of those choices actually seem to have been finished before release.

I know EA pushed Bioware to get this sequel out (or so I've read, and it's not hard to believe), but it's just so incredibly frustrating to pre-order a game and pick it up on launch day only to sit around for weeks waiting for it to be finished via patches. Throw us a bone here, guys. We're dying to experience the full scope of this game.

Hah. Anders is a nice guy, I just don't think of him that way...:?

Nothing is wrong with Aveline, I mean aside from her head. But I was under the distinct impression that you can't actually romance her, despite having a few "heart" dialogue moments. I have yet to move past the beginning of Act 2 becuase of the Merrill bugs, but that seems to be the consensus from everything I've read. Both from posts here and game info elsewhere.

I figured that I might as well throw my voice in too. I am having the same problem with Merrill's quest "mourning" autocompleting. I have heard a lot of people say this has messed up later quest outcomes, so I've been waiting for some sort of fix to emerge. I've been eying this topic and the "Companions: A word of warning. (Bug)" thread.

My situation is like most here, I took Carver to the Deep Roads, he became a Grey Warden, and upon starting act II, the mourning quest autocompleted. It seems strange that there should be such a universal problem with a quest that is important to game continuity and that it should only afflict one character. It's funny that Bioware did such a great job of writing, voicecasting, and designing this character and yet fail to ensure she is a fully playable companion. I actually probably would've just kept playing if it was one of the other characters for this playthrough, but because its Merrill, I want to get this bug fixed first.

Anyway between this bug, the import bug, a long list of smaller bugs, the lack of a camera angle / interface that makes nightmare difficulty playable, and the choice to not allow steam users to preorder the game soon enough to get the "signature edition" DLC, I think I am probably going to avoid ever preordering a Bioware or EA game again. I'll wait until other users effectively pay $60 to beta test the game and I can buy a complete game, not one that has had chunks chopped out of it before it was shipped for the sake of DLC. It's a shame because Bioware used to be a pretty reputable brand when it came to polish on a game (still good story writers and game direction though).

Wait, what is the difference between Mourning and Consoling Words quests? I got the bug where Mourning went auto-complete but I don't have Consoling Words in my active quest list at the beginning of Act 2.

Consoling Words is the quest you're supposed to get if Bethany is taken to the Circle, while Mourning is the quest you get if she went with you into the Deep Roads. (I assume Mourning is also there for Carver.)

I had the same bug (I took Bethany in the Deep Roads and she become a Grey Warden), but now I don't even get "Mirror Image". I've all the other companion quests beside Merril, and they're pretty much all the quest I've yet to do before completing Act 2... So I've stopped playing a few days ago, waiting for a patch and... well, I imagine I would have to restart from the Deep Roads then. Hope they'll fix this soon enough :)

Hopefuly this will get fixed soon as every companion had a "talk to me" quest at the beginning of act 2 apart from Merril :(.

I was searching for an explanation of "Consoling Words" (or a proper outcome to it), and I stumbled on this thread. After reading thru it, it seems that the consensus here is that it can't be accessed. Well, I am actually able to access it , but to be honest, I don't see the point... I ran through it 4 different times using different conversation options and it always ends the same way... No "+" to either "Friend" or "Rival", no experience gain or anything else for that matter. I'm currently at roughly 75% Friendship with her as a male character.

I guess I'm just curious if anybody has found a point to this quest.

Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.

It would also be nice to see a list of things that will get fix, including this bug with Merrill. In case a quest bug got missed.

I just stopped playing after Deep Roads and will continue after they patch this. Just palying Act 1 now with a mage, my second character...

Yeah it can.  Worked fine for me: Bethany got hauled off to the Circle, Varric/Cassandra interlude, quest appeared in journal, talked to Merrill. Done.  Mourning on the other hand definitely will not trigger properly. Even the Merrill debug script accessed through the dev console is of no use.  Normally, you can use that to hear any of her "Talk to Merrill" conversations by picking the one you want, then clicking on her once it has run.  After picking the option for her first act 2 talk, however,  all you get is her default "at home" dialogue about it being messy and whatnot when you try talking to her.
