Well, this game in its current state is so very buggy. I don't even feel like playing anymore. If it means anything to anyone (I know it won't, but I feel like saying it anyway), I've decided to stop playing until we get some serious patches.

Combat is atrociously bugged and my rogue has 22 ability points at level 12, as well as abilities that pop up without me choosing them, making my rogue overpowered, thanks to the Maker's Sigh. As it is, if I continued playing, I would be cheating. Cheating is not fun for me.

Back to Fallout New Vegas for now. It can be buggy at some parts, but nothing game-breaking.

wooow O_O  honestly amazed at bioware's prompt release of this patch.  figured it would be at least two weeks more....
quick question: does anyone know if this fixed the problem with opening doors?  every once and a while i come across a dead door that doesnt highlight blue, nor open >:|  if so, i'll actually go through the trouble of trying to d/l da2 through the ea manager... if not, then... i shall continue being sad panda until an official patch i guess :(
steam never ceases to fail at most everything.

Dragon Age II 1.01
GENERAL:

  • Fixed save game issues on single core machines
  • Fixed game asking for non-existent drives
  • Fixed release control issues where some players were unable to unlock correctly
  • Fixed a Steam-specific issue related to VO not playing after switching languages

So let's see, I gave up using a single core years ago and since the minimum requirements on the game are at least a dual core I wonder why they are even fixing this.  Really, who uses single core processors nowadays anyways?

Second, I fixed the drive issue by going into my bios.

Third, I don't even know what this unlock issue is so I guess I don't have it.

Fourth, I have the retail version not steam.

So any reason I should download this?  I'm a little afraid it might break something that is working while fixing nothing for me.

If you have no issues, then don't install it. I did by mistake actually now that I see it's a beta. I saw it on the page to get the hi-res textures and it didn't say it was beta there so I just grabbed it too thinking it couldn't hurt. And I had none of these issues like you. But I went to reinstall the game and all my saves that I played before the reinstall said they can't open because of the missing patch. Once you go patch, you can't go back with your saves. Luckily I just got the PC version of the game so all my characters are less than level 6. As I was experimenting with what build I will really want to play the most.

I tried installing it, after the game gave me a wierd prompt about an "A:" drive, but it tells me the game is not installed... even though it is, actually. I've downloaded it through the ea manager, do I have to wait for a different patch/reinstall the game?

Thanks for the info. Got into the bios, fiddled around, game still borked. I'd like to know why I can't install an officialy released patch though...

Edit: Oh, figures that the high-res patch would throw me the same error.

Edit2: As mentioned here http://social.biowar...index/6394574/4, changing my locale to US English did the trick. I've had to reboot far too many times just to install a patch tho, so I hope they fix this for the next one.

Well it is probably people that cannot afford a dual core and would love to enjoy the game even if it is in a down scaled mode.  Thought I would mention that.  Personally I have a quad core so I dont worry about it but that was not until last year when I finally upgraded my (single core) computer from 2000 to what I have now.  So I feel there pain.

I was just about to try and sell the game so I could get the xbox version for an xbox that isn't mine just so I could play it. Then the patch came out and I am happy happy. I no longer have to put something on craigslist and I can sit and ignore the world in the glorious, blood filled battlefield of the Dragan Age world. THANK YOU BIOWARE!

I'm pleased this fixed the one issue I was having (the prompt for non-existent drives), but since installing it, I seem to notice some weird graphical issues. Specifically, it looks like there's a strobe light flashing off-camera in dialogue scenes every now and again. Anyone else notice this?

I'm using a Radeon HD 5800 if it makes a difference, and I have enabled the enhanced textures pack (or whatever it's called).

I still can't play the game. I bought DA II yesterdeay, i installed it, and i started the activation progress. I entered the serial and then i tried to log in to my account; but when i try to log in it says:

Check your Internet connection. If the problem persists, the server might be temporarily unavailable

I'm sure that the e-mail and the password are correct, i opened these ports in my router:

18081 (UDP/TCP)
80 (UDP/TCP)
8000 (TCP)
8001 (UDP)
443 (TCP)

These are the ports that the games use to connect.
I can't find a way to resolve this problem, some help?

@chuntyng;  Check the post dates, this thread is almost a year old.

You might have success after installing the current patch v1.03, available here: http://social.biowar...age/da2-patches :innocent:

The simple answer to the crash is you lack of a GPU - That is a chipset that has no RAM of its own, so it is using system RAM. Now given the game is taking what should be DEDICATED Graphics memory from the overall system RAM, that means there in fact is not enough RAM for the game to run properly.

That CPU is also borderline. No heading over to crucial.com and looking into more RAM might help a little but really you need a stand alone graphics card and, that laptop cannot have one added. Sorry but that's just how it is.
