I received the same message. Also, is this supposed to fix the save problem on dual processor machines as well? I have Intel Core2 Duo but still have the save game/forever loading issue.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, we cannot distribute a BETA patch on Steam.
Part of why this is a BETA is that we have not been able to reproduce the situation where multi-core machines exhibit the same symptoms as single-core machines. We hope this fixes the problem, but cannot tell for sure.
(So if you were a multi-core machine that showed these symptoms, and this BETA patch does fix the problem, please let us know).
So are STEAM users are going to have to wait for the official patch?

Hey guys, Um I think people with multi-core processors not working properly may have something to do with the OS.
If you have windows xp 32 bit, (or something similar) you wont be able to use more than one CPU, may have nothing to do with game. just check it out, (Window key and Pause key same time)
find out what you're running, look it up to see if it supports processors.
Hope this saves you guys some time, Wishing the Bioware team every blessing I can imagine

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, so I don't think that's the issue. My specs are:
Intel Core2 Duo @ 2.13 GHz, 4.00 GB RAM, Windows 7 64 Bit Operating System
and I'm still having the save/load issue like the single core users even after trying to use all the work arounds like set affinity and using CPU Control. It says that both cpus are running, but the game hits the loading screen after the prologue, freezes for a second and then shuts down.

If not, I'll be patient. Pripyat Complete got released yesterday and Pokemon Black is damn good... Maybe I should stick to those for now.

Why not ?
I would love to workaround this to get the patch faster, thereby helping to verify the patch.
To thank the patch creators i think they would appreciate a post of your system specs to them.
If you are veryfying that the patch is working. It would help others aswell and thats one of the points of forums like this imho.

I'll check tomorrow if, by any chance, it has solved the freezes too (one can hope that it was related to that same issue too). Anyways, thank you and keep working on the final patch.

Is there any way to bypass steam to update the game? As tech-savy as I am, I know most of you know more. I tried copying the folder out of the steamapps to just my program files, but then the patch updater won't even recognize it. Maybe if I use the exact filepath for a regular install? <-- probably won't work but maybe it's worth a shot. Can someone who bought it retail copy 'n' paste their filepath?

I am fairly certain that Steam actually modifies some essential game files... I have not seen a single game that can be moved out of a Steam folder and still work.rjcripe wrote...

If any of your friends have a disc you can install it standalone... just use your serial from Steam to register/activate and it will work fine.

I think that he'll need to modify the registry too, as the patch looks for the path there. It appears greyed out and you can't select it manually... That's why it's not trivial to make it work with a steam install. In other words, the path of the game doesn't matter as long as it appears the correct registry key.Lacan82 wrote...

I don't think it is a matter of reg keys... I installed DA2 to the default folder, started playing, then decided to move the whole install to my gaming SSD... it worked fine without changing any registry keys.LTBK wrote...

I'm well aware of the fundementals of how the registery works. However he asked for the install path for DA2 which is what I provided him. If it works great it is a stop gap solution for him until the real patch it released. If it doesn't then it is a registery issue.
Only reason it might not work is if the registry for the CD install is different from a Steam install. If it is the same moving the file will be fine, it just any shortcut that will break.

Tried to install the patch on my steam version of the game, and it wont install because it is the steam version. How can a patch that fixes a steam issue not work with the steam version? Fortunately this is not my problem but the non existent drive one. Hopefully we can get a working patch soon.
if you had read the bio ware post you would of seen
steam users have to wait for offcial patch sense steam does not support beta software

and run the DragonAge2.exe directly. It might circumvent the Steam Check. I don't have steam version so I have no idea if it works or not.

I don't know. The patch found your game directory instantly or it took a few moments? Perhaps you executed it from inside the game's directory? I still think that the patch uses the registry to find out where the game is, but it's great if I'm wrong and I can learn something new tooskylr616 wrote...

Nah, Unless we were able to manually install, this wouldn't work for steam lol
