For me it has to be Varric and Anders. Which is no surprise.
Varric because... he's Varric. I don't have to say more than that, do I? I mean everything he says is just great. I seriously think he's the most diverse and intriguing character in the game.
Anders because of his changes throughout the story. Though I really wanted to be pissed at him toward the end I couldn't make Hawke do it just because I still love him to death. It's just sad to see how tortured he became. But that's what made him so great in the game.
The rest of them... I don't particularly care for. I have to admit I love the companions in Origins a lot more, for all of them managed to hit a soft spot in me (and so the moments where we see some of their faces again were like... my favorite moments in DA2, sadly). Still, the companions in this game had their charms nevertheless.
My thoughts exactly.
At first it was strange to see Anders like that, but in the end I thought that it was great. (Was anyone else annoyed beacause Cullen had the voice Anders should have had? I mean... why didn't Greg Ellis voice him in Dragon Age 2? I didn't really listen to Cullen because all I could think was "Aarrgh when I hear that voice I think I'm talking to Anders... but he stands right beside me! That's wrong!")
For some reason I always had Fenris in my party - even though his moping was somewhat annoying, it was fun to have a character that is pissed off whatever you do xD ("Fenris has agreed to disagree." is ... great XD)
And I liked the arguments between Anders and Fenris. (I agreed with Anders most of the time...)
Varric and Anders were great, too.
Anders: What?
Varric: Just wondering if the feathered pauldrons are an essential part of the moody rebel mage persona.
Anders: What are you talking about?
Varric: I'm working on an epic poem about a hopelessly romantic apostate, waging an epic struggle against forces he can't possibly defeat.
Anders: What do you mean “can't possibly defeat?”
Varric: Well, it's not a good story unless the hero dies.

Feneris is fun to have around in party Feneris+3 mages,
Anders/Justice are fun to be with too, but not as much as he was in Awakening.
And I quite enjoyed how jelly my little brother was

She's witty, charismatic, forceful, not afraid to "get down and dirty", and she's into both women and men.

I love Aveline, Isabela, Varric and Merrill sooo much. Awesome characters with great banter and even better stories.

Shame Merril can't learn creation, else I'd definitely take her over Anders, now I'm stuck with the silly tormented mage

Aveline is great, but can be a little too cold, and I don't like that I feel forced to bring her along for tanking!

Then Isabella. I was very, very surprised I liked Isabella... but doing friendship no romance path with her with a snarky mage character payed off big time, and some of her revelations were very heartfelt.

Anders almost stole it, purely because of the big explosion. xD

I think Varric stands out because he's like a even more good-hearted and less libido driven version of Zevran.
I like Isabela too but sometimes here innuendos are a little bit too much.
And I thought the Viscount was pretty intriguing. He really showed what it would be like if someone has a high position but neither the power nor influence to really do anything. His constantly struggles to juggle the needs of the mightier forces in his city and his emotional side concerning his son were really well written and I really thought it was a shame that he is always killed.

Merril's mix of naive psychoness just alittle annoying yet so comical, so now she's always in my group, love her comments to Isabella. Sad she's not a romance option for my fem hawke. Isabellas just 2 skanky to be a believable love interest for my wantable noble. Fenris is cool but antimages (maybe I don't like drunks!). have to say he seems the last fleshed out so far but I'm only 1/2 way.
Anders is my least favorite, just seems your stuck wasting a slot with him for healing =[. Really wish you could have recruited the quanari Mage who selfimmolates that would have been awesome and scary. Fingers crossed for dlc.

Merril is just so cute I can't stand it, and Isabela always has something funny to say, especially with Fenris

Best written characters in a long time since ME2. The character writing was the only reason I didn't scream in rage, tear my shirt off, break my DA2 disk into little shards and EAT it.
I hated the rest of the game, but the characters were the only thing that saved it for me. Barely.

Merrill "I fell off the pier once, it's very deep" <--- random and hilarious.
Varric comes in a close second I really expected him to be a doche bag but no he is calm and level headed, clever and witty.
Varric "Daisy here is a ball of twine so you don't get lost"
I am surprised at Isabella, Bioware chose to hype this character up and I hated her! If she was like Jack I could understand but Isabella is just so selfish I guess getting people to hate some characters is good? Since it strikes emotion in us.
