I can't find a skin tone I like, so I've given up on playing the game for now

Hmm, may have a point, I tried creating a balanced looking mage who looked a bit human and even looked like my brother or myself.

Ended up scrapping him and making another emperor palpatine looking fellow. Killing everything I could, oh well. Maybe my dream is to become emperor palpatine irl.

Hmmm... maybe.

Come on this is a joke right? You're just jabbing fun at the weenies that say they won't play the game because the armor isn't real enough or swords aren't really that long, right? I mean no one is so obsessed that they would pay $50 bucks for a game and not play it because they don't like the skin tones......, right?

Threads like these are why I love the internet. Maybe one day Bioware will patch the game to satisfy the needs of the most demanding skin tone aficionado, such as yourself. :)

It doesn't matter. After about level 8 or so your dwarf warrior will be encased in heavy armor and you won't see his skin.

This is almost as funny as the thread about Dwarven lips being to chapped looking

Oh man... it might just be because I'm über tired, but this thread is hilarious.

10 stars to the man who suggested wearing a helmet!

It took me a very long time to settle on a character I liked enough to play, because I took time tinkering with and getting to know the creator. I do have to admit my complaint that the CC is horribly lit. Ambiance aside, it makes it really difficult to choose skin tones and the like. The complexion slider wasn't so much of an option to me, as I wanted a dalish that looked really young and naive. But after playing with it a while, I did come up with a character I liked. My advice is to keep playing with it.

Quitting the whole thing over just the skin is kind of weird, but then I also play WoW where people complain about getting free things handed to them, and then complain when they have to work for things. So it doesn't really surprise me. :?

This is in fact the opposite to role-playing, sorry. This is in fact "I don't want to role-play any other character other that exactly the one I want to have". Hell, I have this guy, Asian chick, big black brute, and dwarf psycho.

Things like that could happen in all RPGs, a few years ago the concept of customizing your character to such degree was completely foreign. I understand you started playing games only when you could create the characters you want? Then I pity you, stop being so emo about it and play the game.

Couldn't agree more. If, with such an epic game as this, the only thing you can see when trying to play is the colour of your characters skin then there really is no hope for you. Life's too short, nothing in life is perfect, so why worry when it's not perfect in a game?

So ya, I can't find a skin tone I like. I don't want a super pale character, but I don't want a dark tanned character either. I have restarted after getting to the end of the Dwarf Noble Origin like 5 times by now...and have restarted many more times where I didn't get that far. I have had this game for over a week now, but have basically gotten nowhere because I kept on remaking my character. This honestly is a problem for me, not having my character look the way I want him to. I didn't play around with that much in the character creator I guess...but the skin tone deffinitly stands out. I honestly am tired of restarting, but can't find a skin tone I like.

Suggestions? :(

EDIT: I've given up on playing Dragon Age: Origins for now, because I can't find a skin tone I like.

You'd give up on playing the game just because you can't make your character EXACTLY the way you want it to look? Granted, the character creator isn't the best I've used, but at least you have a choice. I created a couple of male elf characters, but ditched them because they looked too girly to me. But whatever. Plenty of games just throw your character in as a generic hero, without facial/body cusomization.

Don't ditch the game just because of that. Especially if you've already bought the game. The game is worth the money and worth playing. It's fun stuff.

I picked the one after the yellowish one, looks really tanned in the CC but comes out with a healthy skin tone. Seems like a silly reason to quit on a game you paid for but it's your money.

I didn't mean to come across as I'm quitting. I just meant I'm done playing the until I can decide what skin tone to pick. I guess I might play around the with skin complexion slider as well.

I'll play it, once I figure out what skin tone to pick. Also, I might play around with the skin complexion.

Yea initially I was thinking that it was the opposite of role-playing, but then I thought that perhaps this guy has a certain Dwarven character in mind, he wants to role play as.

Not really. I don't think I'm really role playing. I don't even mess with all the details in the character creator. Like I don't change the sliders for like chin height and stuff like that.

Why would you miss out on a great game over something so utterly trivial? How much time are you going to spend staring at your character? Just get over it and enjoy.

Sheesh.

play with the complextion slider, it will make you a little tanner.

I was just going to suggest that.

If you leave the complexion slider all the way to the left, you end up really baby-faced (it looks from the OP's portrait that he's using the leftmost complexion).

I suspect sliding if 1/3 to 1/2 of the way over from the left would serve you well.

Yes, the Dwarf in  my avatar has the farthest to the left skin complexion. The thing I don't like about moving it to the right is the character seems to get...uglier. I just test the one to the right of the farthest to the left...and the one that is 2 slides to the right of the farthest to the left. The 2nd one to over is ok I guess...however there is a pink spot that is on one side of his face when I have that skin complexion. That big pink spot is a big no thanks on that one. The one that is 3 to the right..I think looks a bit uglier. The skin color in game seems to look ok though. The lips look ugly also. I think I might end up using that one though...because the skin color seems ok on it.

NOTE: I did these skin complexion test on a character whos skin tone was set not the farthest to the left, but the one to the right of that.

This is one of the most trivial reasons I have ever seen for not wanting to play a game. Seriously skin tone selection as a dwarf even, half your face is covered by a huge beard.

Besides the fact that you're generally going to have a helmet that covers your face on most of the time; the 2nd skin tone looks good on dwarves (being a bit pale as a dwarf looks naturally, really, as you can see on my character).

If that's too pale for you, pick the 4th skin tone. It may look a bit dark in the character creator but it looks pretty okay in the game world.

Jeez - stick a helmet on the dwarf and you'll never know if he's "goth-vampire-corpse"-pale or "liquorice-coal-pot"-black. Problem solved.

Some people don't seem to get what I mean. I'm not saying I quit the game for good or anything like that. I am just saying basically I have quit playing until I figure out what skin tone and skin complexion to use.

Just make your main character the dog, then. No skin, just fur.
