For a short time, every basic melee attack the rogue executes in rapid succession increases the chance to score a critical hit. Activating any other talent cancels the effect, but Explosive Strike can exploit the chain for extra damage.

Is there a way to identify in-game when this is happening?  I mean it looks like a nice ability on paper but only if I know and see that it really works.

Thanks

Well, clearly, I have noticed that the enemy health bar drops rapidly when my rogue is getting criticals on him.

I also notice the enemy flash sometimes, but I'm not sure if that happens everytime there is a critical hit, or perhaps from some other character's special attack.

EDIT: I don't have Explosive Strike yet, only Unforgiving Chain

When you are attacking a target you will see a small icon with a dotted circle above the enemy in question that slowly completes itself. When the circle is complete you have max "charges" and can release it in the form of explosive blow for huge damage.

Is it a skill you use? As the circle is full are you supposed to click something?

Yes, the next ability in the tree, Explosive Strike.

You get the passive benefit regardless, if you get Explosive Strike you can then spend the charges to power it up, if you want.

I was wondering what that was!!!  You're talking about the two crossed swords to the left of the enemy info, right?  Excellent...thank you.

Yeah, around the two crossed swords. That little 10 segment circle is your stacking charges. When its full you've capped the bonus, and it's ideal to use Explosive Strike for massive damage.

Also (not many people know of this, and it makes or breaks a rogue game) if you hit an enemy and the swords change to a shield for a second, he's resistant to your attack, and you should switch your weapons if you have spares. I'm not sure how many differently enchanted daggers there are, but for warriors in act 3 it's crucial when you have physical damage, spirit, and cold weapons, all top tier.

Anyone know if you can set explosive strike to trigger in tactics after the combo builds up?

Doubtful, I honestly wouldn't even bother with it unless you're doing a boss fight and you have time.  In terms of tactics what you could do is just set your rogue's first tactic to: Enemy attacking Aveline or Fenris(whoever your tank is): Attack.  That way they'll just auto attack and build up the chain and when you want them to use explosive strike, you'll have to manually switch to them and tell them to do it.

Ok...makes sense. I was playing around with it and noticed the combo build up doesn't go away so there is no major timing issue...just when you notic it built up, click on Isabella and have her use explosive strike. Thanks.

I don't know why people don't like Isabela. I have her in my party most of the time on hard and she pretty much owns the battlefield. I have to heal her occasionally but I have her tactics set so she rarely gets in a big bind.
